VHS : Rome Adventure

I saw this film in 1962 just days after returning from a tour of Italy. While not a classic film by any means, I was totally won over and was back in Italy again. Whenever I watch it and listen to Max Steiner's wonderful score I can practically smell Rome. It was titled 'Lovers Must Learn' here in the UK, and was never released on VHS here. I had to get a copy from the USA. I would like to add a plea to Warner Bros to release this film on DVD. It has a real nostalgia quotient attached to it, even more so due to the recent sad demise of Suzanne Pleshette.

"You've seen these women --- disturbed, psychotic, miserable," Dr Robert Stack tells starlet nurses about the patients in Borderline, his controversial group therapy experiment. We can't agree that they're mentally ill, for these aren't Borderline Bad Actressess -- they're the Long Since Gone Over the Distant Horizon players.

MEET THE GALS: Finger-snappin' Sharon Hugueny coos, "Free like a daisy, a lazy daisy" and ex-hooker Janis Paige snarls, "Play it, kid: 'I was a Teenage Lunatic'"; mute Barbara Barrie demonstrates that no dialogue's required to fit in with this crowd; Ana St. CLair (whose screen credit reads, "courtesy of DeMedici Productions of Argentina") has a terminal case of Needing to Be Photographed Through Lots of Vaseline Over the Lens that when she's shot in closeup ... VHS : Last Hunt
The Last Hunt is one of those Westerns that somehow has gotten lost.It is a story of a time, when loosing sight of the roof-tops,was dangerous. The isolation,of the plains, bleeds men of moral behavior.Robert Taylor is Charley. In town he is bearable. On the prairie, where the town and laws and rules of the town are lost,Charley looses the decency and reason that makes folks civilized.
The Last Hunt is a great western. The systematic killing of the buffalo, which looks easy and real, looks that way because the buffalo killed during the making of this movie, were actually killed to thin down native herds in South Dakota. The killing of the buffalo provides a surreal cinematic backdrop,to a story of good guys and bad guys trying to disguise what is natural within them. This film should be on DVD for ... 5.All Fall Down starring: Eva Marie Saint, Warren Beatty, Karl Malden, Angela Lansbury, Brandon De Wilde

VHS : All Fall Down
"All Fall Down" stars Warren Beatty, in one of his earliest roles, as Berry-Berry Willart. Berry-Berry is a womanizer and perhaps worse, yet he's idolized by his parents (Angela Lansbury & Karl Malden) and kid brother, Clint (Brandon de Wilde). When Clint visits his brother in Key West, he finds that Berry-Berry has been arrested for roughing up a prostitute. He bails out Berry-Berry and heads home to Ohio, where his overbearing mother and alcoholic father badger him. Berry-Berry eventually returns home, to the delight of his family, who obviously manage to overlook his flaws - some would call it denial. When an attractive family friend (Echo played by Eva Marie Saint) comes to stay with the family, things start to build to a (very predictable) climax.

This movie is an older movie, but an absolute must see. It is one of my favorites starring Robert Mitchum. It features a young George Peppard and George Hamilton.

This is one for the books...very enjoyable noir. Let other reviews cover the unlikely-to-say-the-least plot. Just enjoy Duryea's hair, Lorre's hanging fag, and "Catherine"s forehead...along with, of course, some classic lines of your choosing. A strong 3-stars!

VHS : Memories of Midnight
This movie was terribly dissapointing. The Other Side of Midnight is one of my all time favorites and I could not wait to see this movie. The characters and story line are weak and unsophisticated compared to OSOM. I loved Jane's business attire, she dressed to the T in this movie and the scenery in Greece and Venice were lovely and that's about it. I would not watch this mini series again. Jane Seymore was wonderful in "Somewhere in Time".

VHS : Rod Serling's The Comedian (Playhouse 90)
I was glad to see that you have this video in your catalogue and wish you had more from Playhouse 90. I was there in Television City when it was made, and it certainly caused a stir there, as well as critically acclaimed by fans of Playhouse 90. With an excellent script by Rod Serling and powerful direction by John Frankenheimer, the wunderkind team of Playhouse 90, this program brilliantly satirizes their perception of the on, and, particularly, offstage life of a famous comedian who also taped shows at the same studio. The Comedian is an excellent example of what a great medium television was and could have been forever until I Love Lucy other such trivia replaced the ever exciting live TV dramas of The Golden Age of Television and reduced the medium to a "cultural wasteland."
