"What's it like being you?"- A classic line if ever there was one.

You have probably never seen a movie quite like Naked. It begins with a random rape scene and it ends..., well let's just say it doesn't so much end, as the movie finishes.

Naked gives you a tour of the dark underbelly of London as seen through the eyes of Johnny, an anti-hero if there ever was one. An intellectual who is on the run from.., life? the law? his own demons? You can't really say.

The dialogue is fascinating, the scenes bleak as you view the desolation and wasteland of both London and the characters lives.

It all takes place over the course of a day or two, and when I was finished watching it, I sat with my mouth agape for several minutes as my brain continued to process what ... Read More

This film (a mini-series, I think) is a marvelous period piece, with carefully chosen settings and beautiful period clothes. The irresistible ingredients of this story are good character building, wonderful taste and great accuracy in the setting, good and handsome actors and actresses, war (World War I) and romance. To these ingredients we may add a whiff of Cinderella, and even a pinch of Jane Eyre in the characterization and evolution of Agnes and one of the male characters. We follow the progress of Agnes from dependent -but clear minded- girl to strong, determined woman on whose decisions seem to depend the well-being, and even the life, of those dearest to her, as she proves herself to be a strong, intelligent, no non-sense person. What I most liked about the story (appart from the setting and clothes) is that we see everything ... Read More

Clive Owen (King Arthur, Croupier, Closer) returns as Ross Tanner and this time he faces some tougher cases then the last ones. Hide and Seek, is the first two episodes involving a case that has a non-speaking little boy in which he saw the death of his mother. Tanner (Owen) must find the killer with the help of his former partners but one of them quits so Tanner has to bring in the new one. The result of the murder is a shocker. Parasomnia is the next two episodes in which Tanner has to solve a case of a brutal murder and the only suspect is a woman who seems to have been sleepwalking at the time. It's up to Tanner to solve this one, but he has problems of his own. He is suffering from bad sleeping in which he sees a figure lurking in the room in the dark and also he is going blind (hence Second Sight). Kingdom Of The Blind is the final ... Read More

This enjoyable mystery's strengths are commented on quite ably by the reader reviews on this site.

Permit me to point out two minor complaints which have not been brought up:

1.) Clive Owen's character suffers from a vision impairment. So why, oh why, do we also get subjected to auditory hallucinations as well? Are the filmmakers just trying to use every trick in their bag to heighten suspense? This happened so frequently, I got a bit annoyed.

2.) Why must every mystery end with the villain toying with the hero and explaining in full every last detail of any plot developments that are still murky? This was a tired ploy in every Scoobie Doo episode I ever watched, and I was saddened to see it employed here as well.

I'm not even finished watching the series. I am halfway through the 3rd DVD, but since the first one I've been left feeling cheated. Definitely I see how it has been compared to Brideshead Revisited, but this one is just a tease when it finishes each Part. Each time I finish watching Brideshead I'm satisfied. Watching each Part of Dance is like getting a basic outline without any filled in information, unsatisfying - I'm left hanging. Thank goodness they included a "cheat sheet", but I'm still having a slight problem figuring out who each character is and where they fit in.
After reading other reviews, I really dread coming to the part where Nick ages and they replace him with another actor. What a bummer!!

Winner of one Australian Film Institute award (Best Achievement in Costume Design) and nominated for five others (including Best Actor for Bryan Brown), this film from 1987 is a quiet masterpiece. It submits itself to its characters, permitting the actors to do their work without a lot of clutter. Rachel Ward (winner of Best Actress at the Tokyo International Film Festival) was beautiful as the painfully naive Marge Hills, a woman who desired romance beyond what her humdrum reality could provide. She's introduced to us on her knees at chores, with other events quick to follow that tell us she's a person whose true value is taken for granted, leaving her isolated in a practical world. Aware of an inexpressible longing, she escapes through tabloids with far-out stories of faraway places. This is only briefly but vividly touched upon before the story heats ... Read More
