What happens when you mix the late Jack Benny, Carole Lombard, Robert Stack with Adolph Hitler? One very funny comedy. The script is great, very fast moving, and truly enjoyable to watch. Black and white never looked so elegant.

And don't forget to watch the extra feature, too. Very funny situational comedy called 'The Rounder.'

You may have never heard of it, but it is a classic to watch and to share with your friends and family.

Clark Gable plays a high-stakes gambler who decides to cool his heels in a small town near NYC when he feels the law breathing too close down his collar. There he meets Carole Lombard, the local librarian. They fall in love - at least she does, and they marry; Gable acts like it's a big joke. Of course, he gradually falls in love with her and even decides to turn himself in to the law. He's sentenced to three months in the slammer (he tells her he's going away to South America on business), and when he gets out, our happy couple is reconciled. The script is a good one, and the interplay between Gable and Lombard is lively and romantic. They really make a good pair, and it's a shame it was their only picture together, though they would marry in 1939. Worth a watch.

NOW AND FOREVER is an excellent film that I think most people will enjoy. Gary Cooper was already a superstar when this movie was released in 1934 but Carole Lombard was rapidly rising and would be a major star by the end of the year as would the amazing six-year-old Shirley Temple. Some Temple fans may be disappointed that she is not the whole show as normal for Temple vehicles, one person gives the movie a bad review in part because she does not sing but keep in mind Shirley had not yet reached full stardom and wasn't yet established as singing in her films. It's not a children's film (although my eight-year-old niece loved it, I bought her a copy) rather a film with a child in one of the leading roles so the whole family can enjoy this vehicle. Carole Lombard doesn't get to show her wonderful comic ... Read More

Contrary to previous reviewers, I found this classic 1934 Carole Lombard romance both entertaining and charming. Sure, the plot is dated and predictable, but that's part of the charm with a movie like this. After all, even "fan-dancing" seems pretty innocent compared with the sleaze Hollywood puts in current movies. While not one of Lombard's strongest or most memorable performances, her stunning beauty is as enchanting as ever.

Lombard plays Georgia Alabam Lee, a sultry showgirl who gets arrested for performing a racy "fan-dance". While awaiting to see Judge Daly (played by Walter Connolly), she sees Patsy (played by May Robson), a drunken elderly woman with a bad habit of causing public disturbances. At the suggestion of her press agent, Alabam "adopts" Patsy to be her mother to improve her public image. ... Read More

The DVD case says the film is B&W. Unfortunately the DVD is technicolor. Video quality is blurry, washed out and unwatchable. I would have preferred a crisp B&W version. This version is a waste of time and money. Could not even finish watching this DVD because of the poor quality.

TWENTIETH CENTURY (1934) is perhaps the greatest of all screwball comedies and is the film that established Carole Lombard as the "queen" of that genre. Howard Hawks directed the Charles MacArthur/Ben Hecht screenplay.

John Barrymore, in what may be his "grandest ham" performance, is an egomaniacal Broadway director who discovers shopgirl Lombard and builds her into a major star, as well as making her his mistress. Their relationship is a volatile one, thus three years later she leaves him to go to Hollywood and, shortly thereafter, he goes broke producing plays without her.

Sneaking out of Chicago on the Twentieth Century to New York, Barrymore discovers that Lombard ... Read More

This is one of the best from its time. Pure melodrama. Grant, Lombard and Francis are in their prime here. It is interesting to see how our world viewed marriage and relationships in this era, the late 1930's. The storyline for its time was basic. Man is in a bad marriage (why do these people get together in the first place?). Man meets the right girl but current wife has other plans (his money and his name). Current wife plays every card to stop true love (can't a woman take a hint? He doesn't want you!). Turn of events (usually a tragedy) trips up current wife and destined couple come together.
I just wish that this would come to DVD. I would love to see how this could be remade but given Hollywood's penchant to completely miss the mark on these things, maybe it would be best that it be left alone. Besides I really don't want to ... Read More

"We're Not Dressing", produced by Paramount in 1934 sadly seems to be a film that is largely forgotten today. Nevertheless it is a film which displays alot of important elements that later became the acknowledged "trademarks" of the performers involved in the production. Foremost here we see a very early example of Bing Crosby's relaxed crooning style of musical delivery that became his trademark in countless memorable film performances in the decades to come. Beautiful leading lady Carole Lombard was just starting to fully emerge as the glowing Paramount star beloved of film audiences around this time and "We're Not Dressing", gives her a wonderful character to work with in uppity society girl Doris Worthington who learns a lesson or two about humility while stranded on a desert island. Ethel Merman also displays her high voltage and totally arresting ... Read More

10.Hands Across the Table starring: Carole Lombard, Fred MacMurray, Ralph Bellamy, Astrid Allwyn, Ruth Donnelly

VHS : Hands Across the Table
Hands Across the Table is a fun little film about a gold digging manicurist named Regi (Carole Lombard). She meets a rich man, a cripple who adores her company. Because of his inability to walk, she disregards him as a love interest, but she does spill her problems to him. One of them begins when she meets Theodore Drew III (Fred MacMurray), a formally rich man who lost his fortune in the stock market crash. Now he and Regi are in the same boat, hoping to marry for money. But they have another thing in common; they're falling in love with each other.

Who knew that MacMurray had so much personality, and who would have guessed he'd have so much chemistry with Lombard? The two absolutely sizzle on the screen. Each are hilarious and romantic at the same time, making a film with an average story become outstanding.
