VHS : Harry Connick,Jr.-The Christmas Special
The Harry Connick Jr. Christmas Special was first broadcast on Christmas Eve 1993, on CBS. The picture quality and sound is superb. The most wonderful thing about this VHS tape is that it includes musical numbers not included in the original television broadcast. Harry Connick Jr. captures the spirit of Christmas unlike any other contemporary performer. This is truly a "must-have" for anyone who loves good ole-fashion Christmas entertainment.

VHS : The Carol Burnett Show - A Reunion
I have had this video for a while, and love watching it again and again...I just wish that this particular Reunion was available on DVD. I have searched relentlessly, to no avail. Does anyone know who to contact? My home library is almost exclusively DVD, and now with the newer DVD technology, HD and the like, VHS is so dreary, such a retro format. I know it's just a minor gripe, but if anyone knows where to get this on DVD, please post here!!! An Absolutely Wonderful Show!!!

VHS : Carol Burnett's My Personal Best featuring "Went with the Wind"
This has several hilarious sketches, including when Eunice gets on The Gong Show and "Went With The Wind", which to this day is still one of the best comedy skits ever. Definitly a good buy.

VHS : A Bing Crosby Christmas
I'm confused about many of the reviews which claim that this has very little Christmas and very little Bing. I own the VHS version and my family and I love it so much that I am looking to buy the DVD. My VHS version is loaded with Christmas songs and Bing with his wife and children singing and performing as we watch them grow up over the years. It also definitely has David Bowie singing a duet of Little Drummer Boy with Bing. There is a lot of narration, but it's entertaining and I don't find it overpowering. I haven't seen the show since last Christmas, but we do watch it every Christmas, and I can't remember more than a few songs that are not Christmas themed. Can someone explain why there is so much discrepancy about what this DVD contains? Is it possible that the VHS version is different ... Read More

VHS : Tale of Peter Rabbit
The Tale of Peter Rabbit is told very true to the original Beatrix Potter story in this HBO produced video. The music is delightful. Many of the songs have words and melodies that will be easily remembered. The animation is as close to bringing the original water colors to life as I can imagine. My 20 month old twin girls are totally fascinated by the video and even act out the story, taking turns being Peter and Mr. McGregor.

After watching the video a few times, they sat in rapt attention to listen to me read the story from a book. So in this case, watching something on television facilitated children wanting to read more about it.

The narration by Carol Burnett is upbeat and playful, and surprisingly easy on the ears. This is the kind of video you are thrilled has ... Read More

VHS : Between Friends (Nobody Makes Me Cry)
This was originally a movie that aired on HBO in 1983. Elizabeth Taylor and Carol Burnett are friends in real life as well as in this movie, and the chemistry between the two is obvious in this movie. Both play middle-aged divorcees on the verge of turning 50. Taylor's character is a woman with a drinking problem who's looking for a rich husband and who can't face reality; Burnett's character is a woman who's into sleeping around with married men, but is not looking for a solid relationship. Both of them help each other figure out their own lives in the end.

I was expecting something along the lines of two older women expressing sorrow and regret over their maturity and manless lives; instead, we get an insightful look into what any divorced, middle-aged woman might go through. The language ... Read More

VHS : Pete N Tillie
This is a warm, witty, ingratiating film that many viewers can identify with. It's about two not particularly compatible people (Pete and Tillie) who meet, marry, have a child, then attempt to make sense of each other and their unhappy marriage. They become strangers, torn apart as much by his marital infidelities as by their opposite outlooks on life. After ten years of a very shaky domestic situation they face one of the worst parental nightmares imaginable - the loss of their child to a terminal illness. The maddening pain of this event brings them together but, at the same time, highlights their very different philosophical attitudes. Walter Matthau in the role of the cynical, non-religious, philandering husband is given the wittier lines in the script which he spuns with impeccable timing and perfect ... Read More
