VHS : A Season for Miracles - Hallmark Hall Of Fame
I loved this movie from the moment I first came upon it. The plot is excellent and keeps you deep into the story wondering what will happen next. The actors are marvelous, each in his/her own way, very natural - in fact it reminds me of the old Jimmy Stewart movies that were so heart-warming, but this one is contemporary with modern themes. The film takes place at Christmas which is an added bonus. But I watch this movie throughout the year, whenever it comes on the Hallmark channel or if our family needs a group hug, I just pop it into the VCR. I highly recommend this film.

There's a dialect coach listed in the credits, and her license should be yanked. And burned. Those accents are the worst I've ever heard in any number of crappy movies set in New Orleans. To be fair, maybe the plot was worthwhile, or maybe the performances got better as things developed. But we couldn't listen to it for more than 10 minutes.

I love period dramas, but this was the worst. I did not even finish the movie because it was awful. The immorality alone took it from period drama to pandering soap opera. The characters are weak-willed, lack integrity and make mistake after mistake which they resolve by less than noble means. From homosexuality to abortion to infidelity, this movie was totally tasteless and not deserving of anyone's time or attention. Skip it.

I know this is sci-fi; but still it's a real stretch of the imagination especially with the creatures.but it was ok. I never saw the first one.

I was especially moved by the short, but obviously meaningful relationship between Michael (Travolta) and the adorable server Anita (played by the boundlessly adorable Joey Lauren Adams). When Anita came out of the hotel room happily dancing in the early morning sun, it seemed as if something much more than sex - something wonderful and life-changing - had happened to her during her night with Michael. It was a very sweet moment in a terrific film.

VHS : This Boy's Life
This is a true story about Tobias Wolffe. He is a boy who's mother is raising him alone, and he spends most of his days with his buddies, and getting into trouble while she's at work. His mother doesn't know what else to do with him, so she marries a man, whom she feels would be a good example to him. This is when she decides to send poor Tobias to stay with her new boyfriend to see if he can straighten him out (prior to their marriage). He is very strict, and down right mean to Tobias, but is always nice his mother. Finally, when Tobias' mother gets married to this man, he becomes more violent, and controlling to them both. Tobias still skips school to hang out with his buddies, and gets into trouble. Now Tobias decides after a few years of being tortured by his step-father, with beatings, and mind controlling, ... This is a corn-ball comedy that I thought I'd hate and ended up laughing until the tears were coming from my eyes.

The setup is well done, the story very funny, and then it ends with--well you find out.

If you like to laugh this movie is for you.

VHS : Snake Eyes (1998)
The first thirty minutes are great. You get your money's worth from Brian De Palma in the form of a bravura continuous shot of the various backstage movers at an Atlantic City prizefight. It's the perfect fusion of layered exposition and sheer style. You also get your money's worth from Nicholas Cage playing to the rafters as a slimeball cop in a bright yellow shirt. The opening sequence ends with a political assassination, and clues to the killers' identity emerge in multiple flashbacks that cover the same situation from different angles. It's a great gimmick, but unfortunately De Palma doesn't stick with it. About midway through the conspiracy is unmasked, the flashbacks are abandoned, and "Snake Eyes" settles into a conventional thriller with Cage racing to save the life of a pretty young woman who Knows Too Much. Okay, I think at this point you get the idea of how bad this movie is, but i'll be even more specific.
Think of the worst possible thing that ever happened in your life, then try to compare that to the second worst thing in your life.
Now after you've done that, add 2 kids, that thnk they can act, a few adults that can but don't, then top that off with (spoiler, Which is an oxymoron), the main evil bad guy (Sly Stallone) ends up turning good.
wow.
If it was possible to go negative stars, that might improve it.
Save your money or just flush it in the toliet, that would be better spent
