VHS : The Color of Friendship
Too many films about race relations and prejudice are either geared toward adults only or are so much about the past that they are too graphic and cannot be shown to children. This is not the case with The Color of Friendship. I am 43 years old and grew up in the south. I watch this movie over and over. The movie starts with both girls having preconceived ideas of what race the other should be based on the society and country that they live in. Early on they learn that they are wrong. This - along with so many other things - are lessons that adults too can learn from. This movie could easily be included as part of Black History Month - and it is actually shown on TV over and over during Black History Month - but could be included in media presentations at the local level if it were available ... I had seen the original release from 1978 on VHS tape from my library. One day I was at Wal-mart and saw it in the $5.00 bin, so I bought it. Finally I coulkd enjoy a digitally remastered version of the film instead of a grany VHS. I was also suprised and happy to find that the remastered version cut out some of Walters (Carl Weathers) dumb lines. Like the part where they ate placing explosives down on the road and the kinda look like dog crap and Walters says something to the extent of: " I thought you were supposed to pick up dog crap, not spread it around" and after the explosives blow he said "Man that's some powerful dog doo." Thankfully those lines were removed and now it has a bit more of a war movie feel instead of a war-comedy feel.

All in all it's a good movie, not a great ... Read More

VHS : Overnight Delivery
A romantic screwball comedy that hits all the classic areas, but does it with style and flair, and just enough offbeat attitude (until I read the Amazon review I didn't know Kevin Smith wrote the original script, but there are still plenty of traces in the finished product) to make it well worth seeing. Paul Rudd and Reese Witherspoon have genuine chemistry, and Reese has never been more adorable. Would have gotten another 1/2 star if not for the no-frills package, but does contain both widescreen and pan-and-scan versions.

"Full of life's lessons with examples of both positive and negative interactions. A real conversation starter to help kids understand the many changes all children encounter." Some violence and killing of animals. Drama and excitement made it good. Wind and nature sounds are good. "We want to know more about Canada." "I liked seeing the boy get past his hurt and accept a new family." Best for ages 8 to 12.

This movie of Gregory Peck's is, in my opinion, one of his best. Full of action. Great. But, where can it be found in DVD?

When I read the comment at this site about the film, I spontaneously decided to add mine. We saw the film in a lesson of Business English - which seems quite odd - but I really enjoyed it. It was not as flat as I expected, actually it was really funny and romantic. I had not seen a film with Martin Lawrence before and found him really cude. Also his girlfriend "Sherry" is very sexy... And at last, the music was really good: The soundtrack met my favour and the gospel song "happy day": I could not sit quiet any longer... So my opinion about the film is much more positive: I think it's the right film to pass a nice video session with some chips and laughter!!!

VHS : Deluxe Ed Wood Angora Box Set
In my opinion, this is the worst movie ever made. Plan 9 From Outer Space is like Lawrence Of Arabia compared to Glen or Glenda. I gave it 2 stars because Bela Lugosi's parts are funny. Starts with Bela in a laboratory making some ridiculous Ed Wood speech containing classic quotes as "MAN IS WRONG BECAUSE HE DOES RIGHT. RIGHT BECAUSE HE DOES WRONG! PULL DA STRINGS!" Then the film is all over the place with stock footage, Wood dressed in women clothes, etc. Some whiney voice saying "If the creator wanted us to fly, he'd given us wings." I don't get this movie. I think it might be Ed Wood trying to describe his subconscious on film? I dunno. If you can get through all 70 minutes of this you can get through anything. And those stupid newspaper headlines. There is nothing like this movie. Worth ... Read More

VHS : Ed Wood Story: Plan 9 Companion
This documentary examines the directorial history of Ed Wood with particular attention to the filming of 'Plan 9'. It is an interesting documentary shot in the early 1990s and features quite a bit of previously unseen footage, as well as interesting location shots and interviews with former Wood colleagues such as Vampira and Paul Marco.

The film obviously has great reverence for Wood's work, and fundamentally gives the picture of Wood as a nice guy (despite issues with cross-dressing and alcohol) who was well liked but was somewhat manic about his pictures. My biggest regret about Wood is that he died before he achieved the huge fame that he has today; fame that would have certainly been beyond his wildest expectations.

This documentary is an entertaining and informative look at Wood as ... Read More
