After being directed by Amazon's recommendation to "8 Seconds," and reading the reviews, I thought that this would be an enjoyable film and purchased it. I am not a big rodeo fan, but I do enjoy them once in a while; and I have been friends with several bull riders. While I enjoyed the film, I cannot say that it really helped me to know more about Lane Frost (portrayed by Luke Perry), his life, career, his relationships with other performers, or his marriage. Indeed, after watching the film, I found myself looking up more information about Lane Frost on the internet to help me make more sense out of the movie. Thankfully, we only checked this out at the library. My wife thought is was from the original series. Where as the original series is entertaining and thought provoking, with no embarrassing moments when viewing the show, this post-modern movie treats us with fart-language, Eddie boasting of a bedroom episode, and Eddie calling June a "babe" to her face and a few other unacceptable for family viewing scenes. Trash! Get the season series of the original show. We got season 2. A great value since there are 39 episodes in season 2. Season 1 is out too - another good one. Waiting for the other seasons.

While I can't quite give this movie 5 stars, it is a really interesting combination of several elements. ('Phantom of the Opera,' 'Faustus,' 'Picture of Dorian Gray,' 70s styles, 70s music, and even an interesting foreshadow of 80s music.) The movie starts innocently enough with a 50s style song. (Though the lyrics to the song kind of foreshadow the tragic end.) We then see Phil asking his boss Swan to wreck a star that he feels double crossed him. (Immediately, the dark characters of Phil and Swan are revealed to us.) Swan then notices the naive and innocent Winslow; he decides he wants Winslow's music. (To make a long story short, Winslow gets arrested; he escapes, but gets disfigured. Only at the end do we truly discover how disfigured he became. One injury that we don't find out ... Read More

I was surprised to learn that I had not seen this movie prior to purchasing this DVD. It is a great movie! I am glad to have it as part of my collection.

Watched this movie with my seven year old son. It exposed him to all sorts of themes that I just didn't want him to see. For a young baseball player, the movie introduces the concept of "loser" and just won't let go of it. Irritating as a parent. I spent the movie talking him thru dialogue just to keep him positively directly. Avoid this movie if you have a young kid just learning baseball. There's plenty of fun positively directed baseball films out there.
