I love the movie Auntie Mame. Rosland Russel does a great job of capturing the crazy aunt caracter. I also love love love Lucile Ball. She is a wonder actress and fantastic comedian. BUT this screen play should have never been made into a musical. No matter how cool musicals were at the time. Please don't waste your money on this one and just get the earlier rendition. It will capture your heart and you will fall in love with Aunti Mame.

This is the same edition that came out in 2004; it does not contain any new features. I looked on Criterion's website, and apparently the only thing "new" about this edition is the lower retail price. Still a great movie, so if you don't own it yet, now you can get it for less money. Very cool feature-length making-of documentary included.

Based on a book by the same name by Bette Greene this is a good movie about a 13 year old Jewish girl growing up in a rural southern town during World War II, a town that has a prisioner of war camp for German POWs and the girl who is nmaed Patty comes from a dysfunctional home in which her fat slob father is an abusive drunk who hates her and is constantly beating her and her mother is an uncaring wimp who also doesn't care about her daughter yet they love and spoil Patty's little sister Sharon and the only love Patty receives is from the family's black housekeeper and than Patty meets an escaped German POW who it turns out was forced into the German Army and hated Hitler and she strikes up a friendship with him. This is a sad but good movie but can be very controversial. The cast for this movie includes ... Read More

I first saw this movie many years ago when it first came out. It immediately became one of my favorites.

I was very young then (not old enough to watch a R rated movie)but all these years later it still has an impact on me. Those men got exactly what they deserved.

I was hoping for a better ending though. :(

Fans of "Valdez is Coming" should defintitely enjoy it. The two movies were made in the same timeline and Burt Lancaster did a fine performance in each. In this story once again he plays a similar role as a tracker. This time tracking an Apache leaving a path of destruction. I highly recommend this movie, but I highly recommend you don't pay the outrageous sellers that should not be allowed by Amazon to sell for $75 to $339. Eventually this will be made available on DVD again for a reasonable price. If you have a multi-region player you definitely can find it cheaper. If you enjoyed this catch "The Professionals" and "The Hallelujah Trail".

Willard (1971)

Starring: Bruce Davison, Ernest Borgnine and Sandra Locke

4 Stars

While not overly frightening the strength of this movie is in its story and the fine acting performances by Bruce Davison and Ernest Borgnine. In this version, Willard is a sympathetic character. He's not the cardboard cut-out totally evil serial killer we've gotten used to in horror films.

Willard is a lonely guy who befriends some rats and is driven to using them as a tool for revenge. Although the rat attack scenes will make your skin crawl they are not as graphic as most horror films today. This movie's punch is emotional. This is not a gross-out flick. By the end of the movie you care what ... Read More

This film squanders the considerable talents of several A-list actors with an unbelievable plot and a predictable and moralizing ending.

It's not that I disagree with the theme - I'm no fan of guns - but the concept of the film is simply ludicrous. I won't give away any details, but suffice it to say that this film thinks that conspiracy - no matter how silly, and twists - no matter how nonsensical, will somehow add up to an engaging court drama.

The original script must have been pretty good for these distinguished actors to sign on to the project. I guess someone ran away with that version, because the final product is terrible.
