VHS : Common Ground (2000)
The stories are timeless and still relevant, even though one takes place in 1954, one in 1974, and the last in 2000. It is a similar format to "If These Walls Could Talk 2" in which there are three stories from three different generations. The 1954 sequence hits home, in spite of a "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy within the armed services, because even now, a military career can still be irreparably damaged if a soldier or officer is outed. Gay youths can relate to the 1974 story, seeing minimal progress from 1974 to the present with the way GLBT young people are treated by their peers. All one has to do is watch "The Matthew Shepard Story" or "Boys Don't Cry" to witness recent cruelty against GLBT youth.

The three stories could have easily been made into full-length movies. I especially ... Read More

VHS : Girl, Interrupted
While the fantastic performance of Ms. Jolie won an Oscar, deservedly, and jumpstarted her sensational career, the performance of Winona Ryder has somehow, and unjustly, been neglected- She is astonishingly good, sensitive, nuanced, and very brilliant in the lead role. The irony that amongst her words spoken in the film: ("Have you ever stolen something that you could completely afford to pay for?) appear, in real life, to have slowed down her career, seems unreasonably unfair. She is a great artist and one day hopefully will have an Oscar of her own. I feel she should have been nominated for this film, as should have Whoopi Goldberg, in quite a small but emotionally rich role. In addition, Vanessa Redgrave, though seen on film here for what has to be not quite 5 minutes, leaves an incredible impact, ... Read More

If you're one of those people who loved the Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer movies then you will probably think that Cherry Falls is a great film. I think that it was very good. Not great, but very good.

Cherry Falls has all the ingredients that successful teen slasher movies have exploited to draw audiences: Dark humor, gory tense murder scenes, and an attractive young cast just ready for the butchering. There is a difference with Cherry Falls however. In most teen slasher movies the teens most preyed upon are the promiscuous ... Read More

Actually, as my title suggest, a feel good movie, yet, thru mishaps. Cute personalities, great acting, beautiful women, interesting enough story line, make this movie a hit. Take modern day talk-show TV (Think Jerry Springer); mix it up with young love, stir, bake, and you get the stuff life provides. A bit silly. A bit unrealistic. Still, a satisfying watch. Along life's journey, Brittany's character travels with the perfect plan in mind, hoping to make her life-long dreams come to fruition. Through a tremendous amount of self-made troubles, tears, betrayal, secrets, love and hate, comes panic-stricken ordeals and, still, without giving up hope, her life pans out, and delivers. I found this movie to be effective, and emotional. I loved the ending. Well worth the time to watch. Good date flick.

VHS : Drive (1996)
I never thought a film with simply the title of "Drive" would have such good martial arts action. Yes, Mark Dacascos stars in Drive, but the choreography and intensity of the fights is unlike anything I have evr seen him do before. Only The Strong is maybe the closest Mark gets with the Capoeira fighitng style in that movie. In Drive, it is obvious that wires are used quite a bit, but the results are Matrix-like effects that outdo alot of the compeition such as Romeo Must Die and The One. Mark's fighting is also combined with stunts in Drive, sometimes even resembling Jackie Chan.

The story is basically a no-brainer, where the main charcater (Toby Wong - Mark Dacascos) is always on the run from the bad guys. Once involved with a corporation in Hong Kong, Toby has fled to America carrying a high-tech piece ... Read More

VHS : Riding in Cars With Boys
My wife loves this movie, and I have to say that I find it quite enjoyable myself. Surprisingly, `Riding in Cars with Boys' is a decent dramatic comedy that touches the heart and pleases the viewer. I say surprisingly because it never generated any buzz and thus became a forgotten film. I love Drew Barrymore; I find her as talented as she is beautiful and I can't really get enough of her. Here she shines brightly, as always, and adds layers to the film. In fact, the acting across the board is extremely strong here and is a huge selling point. The film has a few drawbacks; especially the ending, but there are enough highlights to make up for a few disappointing turns.

The film tells the true story of young Beverly D'Onofrio who wound up pregnant at 15, married to a loser and living the life she never dreamed she'd ... Read More
