VHS : Ma & Pa Kettle at Home
The Indians try to make a fire in the Kettles fireplace the old fashion way, the smoke signal way. Judges are a comin' to award a child with a scholarship. However, who ever has the nicest looking farm and raises their kids in a good enviroment has a chance of winning. So the Kettles move back to the old farm (where they lived in their first film appearance THE EGG AND I [1947]) to fix it up. Funniest bit: Ma tries on a corset. Another funny bit: The town Indians had to read a book on "Indian Costumes" on how to dress (or be undressed) like their forefathers and learn to put on war mark make-up. Mary Wickes has a role as "Miss Wetter". The Kettles also have Christmas on the farm. The next film in the series is MA AND PA KETTLE AT WAIKIKI (1955).

William "Wild Bill" Wellman directed 1927's WINGS the first film to win an Academy Award. "Wild Bill" Wellman was a real life Ace in the US Army Air Corps in World War I. He was wounded, went to Hollywood and ended up a prolific and hard edged director. It would seem fitting that Wellman's last film would be LAFAYETTE ESCADRILLE. Unfortunately Wellman's status as a director had greatly diminished in Hollywood and so was the budget allotted for this would-be epic. Wellman tries to put what style he can into the aerial sequences but essentially this becomes a standard wartime love story via Tab Hunter. The film still boasts good photography by Cinematographer William Clothier and a score by Composer Leonard Rosenman and has an excellent cast including Clint Eastwood, David Janssen, Paul Fix, ... i've been searching for this video since forever. i'm now 27, but i saw this movie when i was 6yrs old, back when cable was at it's best. this was indeed one of the best erotic movies i've seen, sneeking late night as a child to watch cable; i came across this moive and it changed my life. i would only hope that the owner would make burn copies and sell the wealth, having it as a vhs is in fact a collector's item.

Without Terrence Hill, this comedy was not as funny as some of their other movies.

I haven't seen this film in sometime, which is why I decided to just get myself a copy. With Joan Crawford, Hope Lange, Stephen Boyd, Brian Aherne, Suzy Parker, Diane Baker, Martha Hyer and Louis Jourdan (just to name a few) in the cast....you can't go wrong. Somewhat dated since there is NO computer at all in the film (smile). Each character is so good and strong. Without going into alot of detail and spoiling it for others....I like how it ended very much. Great writing, script...everything is so well done. I plan on watching this tape quite a bit. It's also nice seeing Stephen Boyd in a 'romantic' role, as I'll always remember him as 'Messala' w/the late Charlton Heston in "Ben Hur".

VHS : Return to Peyton Place
The much anticipated sequel to the 1957 box office sensation, somewhat rests in the middle of being a success and a failure. Most lamentably, none of the cast members of the original film reprises their roles, for whatever varying reasons, nor does the original director, Mark Robson. Miscasting and changes from the novel may account for some of the movie's awkwardness, but the quality of the performances and the last scene involving the town meeting which again, exposes the truth and the bigoted views of the townspeople, elevates it above other film sequels that suffered similar blows of comparison. Conversely, the fact that entirely different locations and sets are used, also gives the movie a sense of unfamiliarity - Mamouth, California for the ski lodge scenes, Fox's Malibu Ranch and backlots ... I think im in love with a bad girl name dollie. She is so sexy and pretty, i hope she does more movies than this one. The acting is not natural which consumes the majority of old classics. You would never ever see modern movies where actor's are just playing the part and realism is not there. You know what, for a classic movie, this one is awesome. I can't get enough of watching this show as i have seen it over and over again. sexploitation movies at its BEST! You have romance, murder, and suspense roll up into one package and it spells MUST SEE.

Very good idea to have these two DVD's, the first and the second parts of this classic sciencefiction films. I watched it on TV when I was a child and I still remember some scenes that astonished me. Now, I watch the DVD's once and once again and I enjoy it so much.

Gary Larocque is the heart of this film; he moves from tepid conservatism of emotions to a fury of life-on-screen and shows us what it means to be an actor: One of the best performances of his generation.

VHS : Twice Told Tales
Twice Told Tales was released in 1963 during an era in which the Anthology was quite popular and would remain that way until about the early 70s when they were being produced few and far between. Twice Told Tales stars horror legend Vincent Price and all 3 stories are written by Robert E. Kent based off the works of Nathaniel Hawthorne and all 3 segments are directed by Sidney Salkow who also worked with Price on The Last Man on Earth.

The biggest complaint when it comes to Anthology's is a lot of the times people feel the stories needed to be longer, but in the case of Twice Told Tales I felt the opposite, with 3 stories in 120-minutes they seemed to drag on a bit longer than they needed to be. Despite my rating I did enjoy Twice Told Tales, but I do feel as if the running time on each story could ... Read More
