The movie is GREAT, the way it was shot, the camera work, the exceptional action, the story-lines, everything! The masterful story developing when it goes through waves to culmination is mesmerizing.
I can't speak about this work otherwise as in superlative terms and it is why it had 10 academy nominations.
The story is incredibly deep, the dialogs are unbelievably smart and trough to life. In every shot, angle, camera movement, music there is so much of cool, artistic interpretation and sophistication. My humble description can even remotely capture the splendor of this work.

VHS : St. Helens
Take my word for it, I have not found any other movie whose content deals with the eruption of Mt St Helens except this one and thank god the late Art Carney was in this or it probably would have only gotten 3 stars from me just for the build up to the eruption alone but his comedic jabs at the right moments made it all the more enjoyable to watch. It's another one of those pictures thats based upon fact but no doubt has some fiction interwoven into it in some spots, it's not the best volcano movie I have seen but it is by far NOT THE WORST...I gave it 5 stars because I truly liked all 90 minutes of this movie.

A scientist (david Huffman) is called to the mountain after a series of earthquakes rock the region and after several readings and experiments determines that the mountain is going ... Read More

This movie was not that good. In the first place, it was excessively voilent. I know this movie takes place during the civil war and it was a voilent time, but I find it particulary unbearable because of several scenes. I also was disgusted by the sexual suggestions and scenes. I couldn't even sit through it, it was so bad.
It might have had a good love story, I mean a man forsaking his soldier days and risking his own life by being a deserter to return to the love of his life, that basis was fine. I'm a Civil War romance lover, I don't mind that. However, all the junk crammed in this film made it immpossible to watch.

Ditto all the great reviews here. I saw this when it came out, but why isn't it out on DVD? The top-grossing Irish film of 1998 can't catch a break from the ditributors here. What a pity.

This movie surprised and charmed me with its orignality, humour and depth.
People living in the slums of Dublin experiencing the unnamed pain of being cut off from their cultural roots and unable to express their personal grief. But for all of that, I laughed and laughed at some of the scenes of the children and the horse... in the lift, racing across Ireland. Wonderful. Powerful.

The film open on a city street. A man walks along the street, he is being watched by the police. Is he a suspect in a murder case? [Why the delay in the arrest?] He will be transported by air back to Los Angeles. Conversations tell about the flight personnel, and the passengers. The weather ahead is bad, the flight will change course. But something will happen to add drama to this story. Can everything that can go wrong happen? What if something happens to the pilot? What if a clever criminal gains control of the airplane? Will he be driven to kill again to increase the drama? [Even if it does not fit his profile?] Weaver's conversation adds more drama. "Do not open the door!"

The empty airplane has an eerie spooky atmosphere [added drama]. Weaver's questions show his clever insanity. "Talk to me." The ... Read More

Many reviewers have complained that the movie "Troy" is not completely true to the Iliad in portraying the characters and events of the Trojan War. This is unfair. Even in ancient times, the Iliad was not the only version of the Trojan War stories, and the Iliad which has come down to us may not be the only version that was performed. The Iliad only tells what happened in the space of 50 days in the 9th year of the war, although it alludes in passing to events that happened before and after these 50 days. Like the whole Camelot cycle which developed through the Dark and Middle Ages, the Trojan War cycle picked up and incorporated the best (and contradictory) legends over a millennium from Greece and Asia Minor. Modern historical fiction has been even more imaginative in retelling the stories. Further, it has been traditional ... Read More

It is hard to believe that this film did so poorly at the box office. It was written, in part, by the writer of Training Day and is as good or better then that one. A powerhouse cast led by Kurt Russell who in this movie looks every bit of his then fifty two years. But for this role of a burnt out, street weary, corrupt cop, his haggard appearance is perfect. The gritty subject matter contrasts sharply with the beautiful cinimatography which manages to make L.A.s smoggy skies look inviting. The jazzy musical score is a winner also. Ving Rhames, who has also played his share of nice, and not so nice guys does great as the assisstant chief of police. The women in this film such as beatiful Michael Michele, Sexy Khandi Alexander of CSI Miami and the still gorgeous Lolita Davidovitch(as Russells long suffering wife) don't have a whole ... This movie was great. Loved the scenery from that era. Ending wasn't what I thought would happen. It definitely left you in suspense.
