I'm no Gloria Steinem but as a woman I found this way to "men hating" and all that. To me, it made women look horrible and really stuck to the bad stereotype of women. Blah! Bad accents don't help either.

VHS : The Birds II: Land's End
It figures. Something like this was bound to happen to me. After viewing all the reveiws off amazon, I was just a bit curious of The Birds II. It sounded exciting, but compared to everyone else's opinion, I seriously didn't think much of it. Somehow I predicted once I bought it, I would make a regret, but no. I actually liked it. To tell the truth, I make no regrets about buying it. I loved it, which is the problem. In B low-grade movies everyone else despises, I end up to be the one who breaks that chain. That's me of course. I suggest this movie to anyone who likes sequels to good movies. Not as good as the original, but good.

Ted and May Hocken (Brad Johnson, and Chelsea Field) and their daughters just want to get away from the normal world. Can you blame them after losing their son 5 years before? ... Read More

Except for a small, slight logical extension to the end, this adaptation is completely faithful to the book. To keep it to a reasonable length, chunks of plot and exposition in the original book have been left out - for example, the entire back story about Mackey being a published author is deleted, so when he goes back to his writing and Martha interrupts him at his typewriter, anyone not familiar with the original book may be lost as to why he's typing and why he reacts so strongly to being interrupted.

The cast assembled is a dream - Debra Winger, Barbara Hershey, Gabriel Byrne, Laurie Metcalf, David Straithairn, Paul Dooley. Because they've had a chance to read the original novel, they have complete backstories, and fully inhabit their characters.

When I first saw this movie, I was completely ... Read More

VHS : Sybil
This is a brilliant performance by Sally Field.I dont think i have ever seen anyone put on a more convincing performance than what she did in this movie. You realy feel the emotion for this person as she has been torn apart mentally by her mother. The unspeakable crimes that were committed against this person makes you shudder to think it could have been done at all.But how she coped with it is stunning, she developed a multiple personality disorder. All designed to take her mind away from the physical and emotional torture her mother gave her.
Now Sally Field did an excellent job here. There is moments in this movie where tears well up in my eyes.Especially that part when towards the end when she gives her psychiatrist(Joanne Woodward) a hug after she tell her she loves the totality of her.Obviously a troubled person was Sybil, but ... Arophecy is proving of deep concern to the vatican-it foretells two virgin births ,one will prove to be the new Christ and the other will be the Anti-Christ.Which is which -that is the question troubling the clerics

One child is due to the daughter of a family in an impoverished milltown in Pennsylvania while the other will be born to the daughter of monied Bostonians .A personable young priest and an equally attractive yopung nun are sent to investigate and reach a conclusion. The usual portents of evil gather around both impending births-ravens ,a sinister black garbed man seen only in silhouette etc
This is a decently made movie but one hamstrung bu the TV movie format which prevents things from getting quite as disturbing and edgy as they really need to be for this kind of subject. The script is no great help either ... Read More

VHS : Robert Kennedy & His Times
Brad Davis gives an uncannily believable and realistic performance as Robert Kennedy in this sentimental but mostly accurate film that does a great deal to capture both RFK and the spirit and political climate of the 1960's. A great film for anyone who needs a flavor for the man, or the times in which he lived.

G.D. Spradlin puts in a strong performance as Lyndon Johnson, whom the Kennedys viewed as an illegitmate usurper in the wake of JFK's assassination -- the tension between the two camps is faithfully recreated. Ned Beatty is passable as the Kennedy-hating J. Edgar Hoover, but Jack Warden and Cliff de Young are horribly miscast as Joe Kennedy, Sr. and JFK, respectively. Warden frankly doesn't look the part and fails to convey the domineering influence Old Joe had over his sons until the stroke that left him partially paralyzed ... Read More

VHS : Midnight Express (Aniv Rmst)
Stone won't make himself vulnerable to anyone or the facts, whether that means eliminating all JFK conspiracy theories other than his own or simplifying a story and people as he has done here in Midnight Express. Stone borrowed Billy Hayes' real story of being held in a Turkish prison for several years after being caught smuggling hashish, and hijacked it to devastating effect. [I focus on screenwriter Stone instead of director Parker because the substance of Hayes' original book was altered by Stone and Parker just created Stone's skewed vision]. Stone was successful in destroying the Turkish justice image in the minds of generations of Americans. Ask most any American [now thirty years after Stone made his movie] to picture a Turkish(or Islamic) prison or court room or justice system, and the one portrayed in Midnight Express is the one that is ingrained. ...
