I'll go out on a limb and give this one a 4 stars. Though it feels like your basic average martial arts flick (and unfortunately, another lame movie taking place in the run-down future), the martial arts cast and amount of fight action make up for it. Though the fights aren't overly impressive, and some of these guys are used to giving a stronger performance, it seems there are fights every 5 minutes throughout the film. And I have seen plenty of worse fights in other films too. If it weren't for the action and cast, this movie would flop.

Billy Blanks. Jala Mehri. Bobbie Phillips. Matthias Hues. Bolo Yeung. All 5 star in this film, and all 5 are impressive martial artists. While the first 2 guys I mentioned (Blanks and Mehri) are not the most popular among fans, and ... Read More

VHS : Ironheart
Bolo Yeung is about the only thing that makes this movie even worth checking out. This is not one of his better outings, but he does play the villain, as usual. Ironheart is a pretty boring movie that moves slowly. Britton K. Lee plays a cop whose mission is to discover who killed his partner and who is behind a kidnapping of young women at a local night club. There are few fights in the movie and most are unimpressive, even the final fight with Bolo Yeung could have been much more exciting. Most of the movie consists of going from place to place, trying to unravel the mystery. Britton K. Lee is nothing spectacular. Though he shows a few martial arts skills, his character is very bland. The cheesiness and acting in Ironheart is just as bad as any poor martial arts movie and the night club ... Read More

While the plot, like most action movies, suffers a bit, this movie is still a lot of fun to watch. You get not only Jean Claude's martial arts prowess on display, there are others. The most prominent being Cory Everson who is so sexy as a bad girl it hurts. In fact one of the weaknesses of this movie is the fact that she is not on screen more often. Check out her search of Jean Claude's girlfriend. it's a real turn on.

VHS : Enter the Dragon
I really enjoyed this film because it was a lot more than just a martial arts flick in which the plot was just an afterthought to surround the fighting scenes like most martial arts films then and even now. In fact, as has been pointed out by many reviewers here the action scenes are certainly not the best fight scenes ever but that's okay as it's clear that that was never Bruce Lee's intention in the first place. This film was more of a vehicle for Bruce to try and pass along his philosophy which is why the previously deleted scenes from the original screening which has been added here are so important.

That's not to say that all the fight scenes were poor because that's just not true. The scenes were pretty brief because as Bruce himself has mentioned, the real-life fights are never ... Read More

The Jean Claude Van Damme Review Matrix (JCVD-RM)

1.Who is he? He's two guys! Identical twins separated at birth by the Chinese mafia, one, Chad, is a silk underwear-wearing pretty boy from Los Angeles, and the other, Alex, is a criminal from Hong Kong. Amazingly, they both grew up to be martial arts experts.
2.Which family member/friend must be avenged? Their parents are murdered by the same Chinese mafia
3.Does he take his shirt off? Bolo Yeung rips Chad's shirt off during a fight sequence
4.Does he have sex with a C-List actress? Yes. Actually, his sex scene with the beautiful Alonna Shaw is worthy of late-night skinemax fame.
5.Is there a tournament? Sadly, no.
6.Is training needed for this tournament? Perhaps some firearms training should have taken ... Read More

VHS : Shootfighter 2
The first Shootfighter was one of the best original American made martial art movies ever in my opinion. Unfortunately, part 2 got lazy. This time the action takes place in Miami. The story is nothing more than a sting operation to discover who is behind the illegal Shootfighting ring, which ends up going bad. William Zakba, Michael Bernardo and Bolo Yeung are the only 3 to return from the first film. Sorry to say, but their roles in this film were pretty bland. As for the other characters in the film, it pretty much goes the same way. The villain and leader of the Shootfighter ring plays Shingo's (Bolo Yeung) brother in this film, but his character too is unimpressive and not convincing.

The real let down is the action. There are less fights, poorer choreography, less weapons, barely any ... Read More

YOU KNOW, I ACTUALLY WATCHED THIS AWFUL AWFUL MOVIE IN SPANISH. AND EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND A WORD THAT WAS BEING SAID, I WAS BORED BY ITS FIGHTS ALONE. THE REASON I CANNOT TELL YOU THE PLOT IS BECAUSE I COULDN'T UNDERSTAND THE DIALOGUE. BUT I WILL TELL YOU THIS, FROM WATCHING THIS MOVIE, I SAW SOME OF THE WORST KUNG-FU FIGHTING EVER. BRUCE LE SEEMED COOL, BUT, THE FIGHTS HE DID IN THIS MOVIE IS DEFINITELY LOW-QUALITY. I REGRET EVER WATCHING THIS MOVIE. THIS MOVIE WAS SO BAD THAT WHEN I SAW IT IN SPANISH ON CHANNEL 47 IN NEW JERSEY, I DIDN'T EVEN WANNA WATCH THIS VIDEO TO FIND OUT WHAT THE CHARACTERS WERE REALLY SAYING. IN ANY LANGUAGE, THIS IS DEFINITELY A KUNG-FU MOVIE YOU DEFINITELY DON'T WANNA SEE.

it has problems. 2 to be exact but nothing that makes it unwatchable. No, sir. The non removable german subtitles are distracting, but it's not exactly the best movie and when the action starts, they don't really talk anyway. Also , it is not remastered but is VERY watchable. VERY!!!!!!
But not all is bad. It is widescreened to perfection. That always helps:)

The story starts out with mark long and hwang jang lee plotting to get a hold of the secret kung fu book containing the 36 deadly styles. And mark long I think is actually playing ghost faced killer. But sorry only one fight with him(it's good though). So the movie starts out with chan lau and some goons jumping these kids from shaolin and one of them makes it through it alive. When he recovers he is put to work at the shaolin temple where ... Read More

This is the finest film ever made. You will sing. You will cry. You will not laugh or you will be destroyed.

I eagerly await the prequel, Bloodbirth, currently in production telling the story of a young Frank Dux born with his umbilical cord wrapped around his throat. Stan Dux, Frank's once kindhearted sweater knitting father, blames his wife for the accident. Stan begins drinking heavily. His drinking becomes out of control and culminates in a scene at his son's 6th birthday party. Upset and disoriented after a particularly viscous round in the moonwalker, he vomits on his boss's wife before challenging him to arm wrestle. When his boss declines, he runs inside only to return moments later wearing a karate gui and sporting the $300,000 conquistador helmet he had appraised at antiques roadshow. He is greeted with the ... Read More
