VHS : Happy Ending (1969)
Even though Bobby Darin has only 10-15 minutes of screen time this is one of his best acting. He's just so natural and believable and poignent in this role. And it utilizes his skill with accents.

I'm really just rating Darin's performance as I've not bothered to watch the entire movie. :) I only bought it 'cause of Darin.

I wish it was out on DVD, but I'm glad to have it in any format.

VHS : Ruby in Paradise
I saw this film in the theatre back in '93 or so, and walked out of the darkness thinking that Judd had a great career ahead of her. Now over ten years later, it seems that R-in-P is destined to be her best film ever. I'd buy this movie in a heartbeat were it available on DVD. What's the problem? No distributor?

3.Waterloo Bridge (Diamond Jubilee Collection) starring: Vivien Leigh, Robert Taylor, Lucile Watson, Virginia Field, Maria Ouspenskaya

VHS : Waterloo Bridge (Diamond Jubilee Collection)
This remake of the 1931 filmed version of Robert Sherwood's play about the doomed romance of a WWI military officer and a streetwalker, is a classic tragic romance that sanitizes the original, but is distinguished by lovely performances and exquisite black and white cinematography. It is really a pitch perfect tearjerker for the period.

Vivien Leigh is heartbreaking as ballerina turned prostitute Myra, and if possible, even more beautiful than she was in GONE WITH THE WIND. Her acting in WATERLOO BRIDGE is a far cry from the exuberance, and bold colors of a Scarlett O'Hara. Myra's emotional palette is muted, but the shifts from melancholia, to hopefulness, to despair are done flawlessly and show Leigh's great range as an actress. Robert Taylor as Captain Cronin is a fine romantic partner ... Read More

VHS : Godmoney
First off, I want to say this is one of the most POWERFUL films I have ever seen. Darren Doane was on a budget and really impressed me with this movie. It's Apocalypse Now for the suburban teenagers. The movie is hardcore and the sound track is amazing (With bands like Blink 182, Pennywise, Downer, MXPX, Stavesacre, Rollins Band, Descendents, Guttermouth, Ten Foot Pole, Strife, AFI and Far). Godmoney is a story of urban survival. It is set in Los Angeles, and it is about a guy named Nathan who leaves New York and tries to forgive his past of crime, drug addiction and life on the streets (And what an intense past he's had, you aren't told about his past until further into this movie). Once in California he tries to put his life together, but is befriended by Matthew, a small-time dealer who recruits Nathan to ... Read More

VHS : Abbott and Costello Show Volume 6
If you enjoy the comedy of A & C and are disappointed by their feature films, you'll want to own collections such as Volume 6. The VHS series is ofcourse drawn from the '52 to '53 sitcom and includes the boys at their absolute best. It's well-known that the "Seinfeld" series in its early years used alot of the show's style - from the man on the street tirade to the audience "laugh track", etc.
It has been written that show was conceived by Lou Costello as means to gain Copyright to the old routines. He even enlisted a relative, Pat Costello, to act as Producer, presumeably in name only. The result was one year of free-wheeling brilliance and another, final, year of labored, unfunny material that almost any team could have pulled off. Superlative support (in the first year's entry) came from Hillary Brooke, ... Read More

HILITE of this rather short early pre-code talkie [with a song or two] Friml, I recall? IS THE SPECTACULAR arrival/departure and fate of the Zeppelin Airship, dynamite sets, and effects in this elegant little sleeper starring JEANETTE MACDONALD in an early role, looking spectacular - of course, and she does sing one or twice, and dances superbly ......

It's basically about thwarted love and a mix-up regarding the 'picture brides' of that time .... desperate girls looking for some Prince Valiant to rescue her [similar to e-mail chatrooms today I guess].

However, besides the ensuing tangle - her boyfriend's brother accidentally 'gets' her as a bride .... but do not despair - there are one or two reels left to unspool and resolve the mishap.

A Young JOE E. BROWN [looking somewhat like a minature ... Read More
