We love this movie! My son loves to watch the fish and I love that it isn't over the top and cheesey!

I really like this "quirky" off-beat film. It has a kind of "English" dry humor to it. If you liked "The hitch-hikers guide to the galaxy" you will like this film too. I liked this film enough to buy and send my mother a copy.

3.Crazy in Love starring: Holly Hunter, Gena Rowlands, Bill Pullman, Julian Sands, Herta Ware

VHS : Crazy in Love
This film is a delight, perfectly crafted, well-acted, excellent screenplay, a marvelous study of human relationships with a moving portrayal of the women who've suffered and survived on a Washington island (transplanted from another location in the original book). As a screenwriter, this film taught me a lot about how to create a movie on a limited budget, but with pure ingenuity and talented actresses. Holly Hunter is superb in the title role - what a shame this film didn't get the attention it deserved, perhaps because it was classified as a "chic flick" because it explores relationships rather than focuses on action.

This is perhaps the only decent DVD of this movie available. The previous no-extras release was pan-and-scan, but the print appears to have been a tad cleaner than the one used for this wide-screen edition. The extras are all right: The best is about how the film came to the big screen. The weakest is the oddly edited collection of outtakes. The "behind the scenes with..." extra is good, but it is clear that the interviews were each only a few seconds long and nothing like the extended commentary you'll hear on, say, a Peter Jackson extra. The audio commentary is probably the best thing going.

All in all, if five stars is a "Isnt' that faaaaaaaaaaaaabulous?!?" and one star is a "two slags at a pie bake-off", this ranks 4.5 stars. The film alone is worth it!

5.A Kiss Before Dying starring: Robert Wagner, Jeffrey Hunter, Virginia Leith, Joanne Woodward, Mary Astor

VHS : A Kiss Before Dying
He may not have been James Dean, but Robert Wagner delivers a career performance in this sorely neglected sleeper from 1956. The first half is a beautifully shaded dance of death as Wagner plots to rid himself of the inconveniently pregnant Joanne Woodward. He's all sincere insincerity from one rendevous to the next, while she wants desperately to believe, even against all odds. Has there ever been a more cold-hearted manipulator of vulnerable feminine desires. Dory (Woodward) is all whiney expectations, while Wagner conceals ruthless ambition behind a pretty boy mask.

Director Gerd Oswald's staging of the first half is little short of brilliant, and had the filming been in appropriate black and white, a latter day noir classic would have resulted. Notice how subtly Woodward expects a kiss ... Read More

VHS : Rage of Angels
This highly successful tv-miniseries is perhaps the one that ignited the success of the miniseries genre. Although, there are others who came before this, it was RAGE OF ANGELS who ignited the "mania." Of course, there was Richard Chamberlain starring in all those other successful miniseries based on books and him as a King of the genre but it was Jaclyn Smith's "Jennifer Parker" that gave the glitter and excitement and that finally,a woman is about to claim a throne and she really shine in this beautifully adapted version of Sidney Sheldon's novel.

All of a sudden, people started rushing to read and re-read the book and even the video released during the 80's was a big hit. People who have seen the movie on tv wanted to get a copy and you can hear people talking about the movie during lunch time or coffee ... Read More

VHS : Bullies
I saw this movie a long time ago and I remember quite a few things from it. A knife playing game much like a scene from Aliens. Olivia D' Abo being so good looking and violence and mayhem up the wazoo. The only other thing I remember is that Bullies was directed by Paul Lynch, who also made the original Prom Night and Humongous. Other than that this is not for everybody because this is an extremely violent flick but I liked it for the amazing climax that this film has. Well the buildup to it was perfect and boy do these guys deserve what they get. Believe me they do!!! Watch and enjoy!!!

VHS : Death of a Soldier
Based on a true story, the tale of the Brownout Strangler - an American GI in Australia during World War II who turned serial killer, was tried and hanged - this film succeeds as a minor gem. It has good acting by many of the principals, include James Coburn as a reluctant legal representative and Reb Brown in what is perhaps the best role of his career.

In 1942, the war in the Pacific is not yet going in the Allies' favour, and the arrival of US troops in Australia causes upheavals for the locals beyond what the war had done so far. Among the troops around Melbourne was Edward Leonski, an unstable private whose parents were abusive alcoholics, and whose siblings had trouble being either in jail or in mental institutions. Leonski was the sort to drink and party a lot, but had a violent streak in which he ... Read More

VHS : Less Than Zero
Less Than Zero I've heard of this movie for years & I finally got it! It's a sad & intense tale of someone who "marches to the beat of their own drum" (while strung out on drugs & alcohol) without checking his bearings or vision with others (a.k.a. self-deluded) & ultimately becomes the cause of his own demise. There are enabling individuals who help him on his way too. Strongly reminds me of the "Very Draining People" chapter in the book, "Ordering Your Private World".
