I am a big fan of the Muppet Family (Sesame, Fraggles, thee Muppets, Labyrinth, etc.)and so it is without hesitation that I write this review to say this Muppet release is best to be forgotten. Some have been pleased with the newer Muppet releases (Muppet Christ Carol, Muppets From Space) and disappointed (Muppet Treasure Island)... but this release is beyond disappointment or simply a bad movie. It's simply inappropriate for a Muppet film. Fozzie is a pick-pocket, which is sort of funny, but it goes downhill from there. Kermit is furious at everyone and apparently suicidal (screaming "I wish I was never born!" over... and over... and over again...). Miss Piggy is a Call Girl Operator. I have always been a Muppet fan and was privaliged to have been raised on Sesame Street. Brian Henson has what his father Jim Henson had, A wonderful imagination and sense of humor. If you take the Muppet movies too literally you miss the point, just enjoy.

This movie has a lot of great qualities, but it's got a few flaws as well. The big one being Ms. Ashanti and her god-awful acting! The story was, oddly enough, a lot closer to the original book than Garland's version was. Which was a pleasant suprise for me, since I loved the book as a child much more than the famous Garland movie. The jokes had me rolling on the floor with laughter, and I was pleased that the Muppets weren't afraid to continue to entertain their adult audience as well as the little kids. I was sceptical about this movie; it has not been reviewed kindly here. We picked up a copy at the library. I put it in the dvd player for my kids and went into the kitchen to clean up, and i could hear snippets, and my kids laughing. i went in to join them and found myself totally sucked into the sweet characters. We must have watched it ten times before we had to return it. My kids are 4 and 6 years old. we are still quoting the funny lines from this film. I am buying a copy from amazon so we will never be without it. If you compare it to some of the other big muppet movies I can understand why people missed it's charm. it is a quieter movie. The first 30 seconds did not engage me, but once i sat down and paid attention, i found this to be a sweet little gem.
