Coal Miner's Daughter - 25th Anniversary Edition
Great movie for family night. Cissy Spacek did a great job portraying Loretta Lynn and kept me entertained the whole time.
Anyone who loves music should see this movie and would know how truly tough it is to break into the music business; this movie definately shows what it takes to make it famous.
Anyone who was or is poor can associate with the story this movie tells.
This is not a documentary but it does show a lot of history on Loretta Lynn and is enjoyable to watch...definately not boring!

I am lucky enough to have this movie on VHS. Before Robert Downey Jr. just completely fell into a world of somewhere that seems to be the land of no return he was quick witted, funny, sexy and charismatic and his hosting the camera's adventure during the politcal conventions of '92 was actually brilliant! Everyone should see this movie. It rules!

It's hard to decide where to start describing this movie. A man tricked into becoming a soldier in the union army (Janssen) attempts to escape the prison camp he's in. The first time is a failure and so the movie begins. He does 30 days in "the box" and tells the jailer his time was up "three days ago". Janssen (Macho) does manage to escape on his next attempt. This man has had all he can take of what life has dished out to him. That's the only reason I can think of why he would kill a man (Carradine) over a bottle of champagne. Carradine and Jean Seberg had just been married. She witnesses his death from the second story of their honeymoon suite. The marshall of the town decides Macho acted in self defense but Seberg goes after him and offers a sizeable reward. The ending is sad and ... Read More

I have to admit that I liked the epcot-esque city in which this story is based. Its retro sci-fi look is great and lends itself well to the story. The special effects range from "good for the time" to just plain "bad". The story itself drags on a little too long. There is no reason this movie should be 120 minutes. The premise, however, is good and has not been well duplicated since the original. I simply wish sci-fi movies could have avoided "coming of age" during the time of psychedelic filmography. Hard core classic sci-fi fans might be intrigued, but I fear most everyone else will be bored with this film. I can say it's average, and that's about all.
