VHS : Fly (1950)
The best laid plans of mice and men, not to mention flies.

This is first rate science fiction, but of a heart-wrenching variety.

This story is a bit in the spirit of Jack London tales, where some spirited individual gets crushed (in this case, literally), by going out too far on his own.

In this case the spirited individual is a family man who happens to be a scientific genius, developing in his basement the first matter teleportation device. It works, but he fails to realize that the wilderness he confronts in it is not as user friendly as his wife and kid. It confuses him with a fly (which was in the disintegrator with him but escaping his notice). In other words he escapes nature's notice, which didn't bother to distinguish him from the fly, treating ... Read More

VHS : Annapolis Story
Kevin McCarthy was the best known intellectual of the fifties. His long brooding face filled the screen with what made us think of the word "egghead" first- a doctor, lawyer or scientist. He's very badly miscast as a navy pilot and a football player. John Derek, on the other hand, is a shoe in for the part of his younger brother and romantic rival for the same girl. With better casting luck his bold action persona sporting a sensitive side could have been the Tom Cruise of the fifties. The battle scenes are top notch, intercutting real planes aboard a naval carrier with close shots of our stars. One weak scene does show them looking out the window from their planes in flight at each other about ten feet apart, not an A+ for realism, there.

This classic was hard to fine and understandably so. The plot follows an American Vet perturbed by our benevolent big government not fullfilling the American dream of the G.I. Bill's promise of a low interest home loan. Our patriot is the target of a Communist cell who are always looking for new recruits and also offering their version of the American dream however sans God,mother, country and the apple pie. Great flick goes over every communist type. But watch out for that liberated woman she may not feel diamonds are a girl's best friend but she'll take a goosestepping communist with a baseball bat (and I don't mean the game) any time so put on those kneeguards and enjoy
the flick.

7.One Hundred and One Dalmatians starring: Rod Taylor, Betty Lou Gerson, Cate Bauer, Lisa Daniels, Ben Wright
