What does it take for this studio to get into the 21st century and put their movies on DVD? There is a block of musical lovers and Betty Hutton lovers that want to buy this movie but we dont own VCRs anymore! Besides anything with this cast has to be fun ,but not on VCR! At least not on my plasma tv!!!

VHS : Miracle of Morgan's Creek
That Preston Sturges managed to get this perversion of the Christmas story past the censors is a miracle all on its own. Betty Hutton's and Eddie Bracken's peculiar talents are a perfect fit for this story about greatness thrust upon an unlikely recipient.

Sturges's crazy combination of really smart banter, simple-minded slapstick and a perfect sense of comic timing works miracles with a great supporting cast: Diana Lynn, William Demarest, Julius Tannen and Porter Hall.

A little known, little watched movie, but classic Bing Crosby and Betty Hutton. (By the way, my mom was in the movie as one of the singing WAVEs, so I am a bit biased).

VHS : The Greatest Show on Earth
First about the media product--the DVD; it's minimalist, giving us the movie (with scene selection, and standard language setup options) and nothing more. If I was rating the DVD package alone, I'd give it a 2.5 (that's pretty much what you get for just showing up). But, hey, it's the only (Greatest) show in town, so to speak--so go with it and pray for a future edition with commentary, background extras, etc.

Now, the movie. A personal note: my parents took me to see this in a theatre when I was 7 years old. Ever since that time I have wanted to be Brad Braden (Charlton Heston) aka Boss Man, running a circus or, failing that, The Great Sebastian (Cornell Wilde) flying above center ring. So I guess I'm prejudiced.

Corny, hokey, melodramatic, over-the-(big)top--sorry, ... Read More

VHS : Hollywood Classics Collectors Edition - The Perils of Pauline
The Perils of Pauline is a silent movie serial of 1914, followed by second serial in 1934, and finally the movie was made in 1947 starring Betty Hutton (1-3). Pearl White (Betty Hutton) stars as a working girl in a clothing factory. She sings while working and dreams of becoming a star someday. It is a typical story in which the boss hits on the little girl, and girl smacks him, and when she is about to be fired, she meets the famed stage actress Julia Gibbs (Constance Collier). Pearl reveals to Julia that she is her fan, and Julia invites her to audition for "The Farrington Players" a Shakespearian play. Although Pearl is a novice at acting, Michael "Mike" Farrington (John Lund) offers the role reluctantly. While working at the theater she falls in love with Mike, but at the same time the career of Pearl takes ... Read More

Read that the "ever popular" Mae Busch was in the cast, so I bought the DVD hoping to see Oliver Hardy's film wife in a later effort.
It took some research but I learned that she had a tiny, uncredited role in this opus made in the year before she passed away.
While I looked for "Mrs. Hardy", I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this very well crafted musical with a star I knew very little about - I can understand why Betty Hutton had such a long and successful movie career - bundle of energy and talent. Could get sentimental and bring the viewer to tears, within seconds of delivering an uptempo swing number.
I can see a strong (presumptive) role model for Lucille Ball. Mayhe not as "funny* as Lucy, but obviously a greater singer and dancer.
Movie could be described as a B+ feature; terrific ... Read More

The song Doctor, Lawyer, Indian Chief is not on this video. I was very disapponted as that is the reason I purchased it - to see Betty Hutton sing it once again. Otherwise, movie is good.
