I'm not Chinese, and even I was insulted. I can't believe that at one point in our country's history this was considered art.

VHS : The Left Hand of God
I first saw this movie as a kid when it was first released. I have seen it a number of times since then and always enjoy it. Is the casting a little 'off'? Certainly! Is the idea of Bogart as a priest somewhat strange? Absolutely! But does he play the role well? Yes! Is Lee J. Cobb amusing as a Chinese Warlord? Indeed! Is his make-up exaggerated? Yes, beyond belief!!! But again, does he play his role well? Yes! And the others, do they play their roles well? No question! I read the reviews posted here and find that what others say is true - but - this is still an entertaining film, reasonably well acted, and has a superb cast. This is not a movie to be dismissed. It stands the test of time and it stands up to be reseeing. I whole heartedly recommend it to everyone.

This movie and the DVD series of Seasons one, two and three, from the original T.V. show are a Must See. The lessons learned from them are integrating themselves into my life and creating permanent, positive changes. I heartily recommend everyone watch them, even if you saw the series 30 years ago. The lessons in life, if taken, will positively change your life forever. By the way, David Carradine is fantastic. No one could ever match his performance in such a role.

VHS : Charlie Chan: At the Opera
1937's "Charlie Chan at the Opera" is a better than average episode in the long running Charlie Chan series. Warner Oland stars as the titular Honolulu Police Detective, with Keye Luke as Number One Son, while Boris Karloff has an outstanding guest role as an escaped mental patient now haunting an opera house in the manner of "The Phantom of the Opera."

The story opens with Karloff's escape from a mental institution, then presents a murder at an Opera House to draw in Charlie Chan. Chan is his usual inscrutable self in his police work, with veteran character actor William Demarest (Uncle Charlie of "My Three Sons") as his none-too-bright foil on the local police force. The plot itself is filled with the usual collection of suspects and more than the usual number of red herrings; only the most ... Read More

VHS : Charlie Chan - The Chinese Cat
1944's "The Chinese Cat" pits famous detective Charlie Chan, here played by Sidney Toler, against a murderous diamond smuggling gang. The famous Honolulu detective, seconded to the U.S. Government for the war effort, is assisted by series regulars Number Three Son Tommy (Benson Fong) and nervous cab driver Birmingham Brown (Mantan Moreland).

Chan is asked to investigate a cold case involving the locked room murder of the husband of a wealthy socialite, who has now been acccused of the murder by a muck-raking novelist. Chan and his son follow a rather improbable string of clues that point to a bigger conspiracy and high stakes in the form of stolen diamonds. As witnesses keep showing up dead, and one dead witness keeps showing up alive, Chan, Tommy, and Brown close in on the smuggling gang's hideout in a old ... Read More

When I was a kid they used to run Sci-Fi and horror movies on Saturday mornings. Some were truly excellent such as The Thing, or The Day The Earth Stood Still. Other times, they were frankly pretty cheesy. Still, when your a kid that's part of their charm. The special effects here weren't half bad for it's day. I think that this film should be in every serious sci-fi buffs collection. Speaking of cult classics, here's a hot tip: Amazon has "An Occurence At Owl Creek Bridge"!! You haven't seen it? It's the one short film that will haunt you for life. SEE IT!

This was the perfect conclusion to the series of the same name. It carried the same actors and story line to a conclusion that could have been a new beginning to the series. Set the the old West with an unusual hero the series and the movie gives viewers a look at a culture that has been all but wiped out by the history of China.

When it first came out in the sixties, I thought Flint was really cool. I watched it in 2008, and it turns out that my memory of how cool the film was just shows how little I knew in the sixties, either about cool or about movies. The special effects are primative, the plot tedious, and the acting over. All that remains is James Coburn, who really is cool. But Coburn has been in much better films than this. Watch The Magnificent Seven instead.
