Immensely enjoyable. Kaye plays Professor Hobart Frisbee, one of seven monastic intellectuals who reside at the American division of the Totten Foundation. Frisbee meets a pair of hip window washers who tell him all about jazz, jive and boogie woogie. Beautiful Virginia Mayo is Honey Swanson, a singer hiding out from her gangster boyfriend Steve Cochran (she's also trying to keep away from the DA who wants to testify against Cochran) In the original, Barbara Stanwyck played a stripper, who taught the boys the ropes about English slang circa 1941. Here, the plot is basically the same, but the Professor wants to learn all about Popular American music, 1948 style. The only criticism I have of this is that it could have been three hours long with all the available material and surviving members of his bands... well, it's still a 5 star video for the fan of jazz. Benny Goodman is a legend and the DVD is a short but fitting tribute.

As with Ludwig von Drake's other beloved stories, I have to say it: why, oh WHY, is this NOT on dvd??? With the sad loss of Disney Channel's late-night "Vault Disney" (and even Toon Disney losing its sense of nostalgia), it's become more important than ever for us die-hard Disney fans to find access to the shows and characters we loved and grew up with. Ludwig von Drake and his "kooky" adventures are certainly among these. (Von Drake and I were "born" about the same year, 1961.)
