C. Columbus: The Discovery DVD

This movie is probably the most historically accurate film that I've seen, so far, on Christopher Columbus. Contrary to what you might have been taught in elementary school the intelligentsia did not think the world was flat. They thought the world was round and was approximately 25,000 miles in circumference at the equator. Columbus thought the circumference at the equator was more like 18,000 miles. (25,000 is correct) Since Marco Polo had traveled by land to Cathay(China) going East for about 12,000 miles, all he would have to do was sail West for 6,000 miles and voila he'd arrive in the Indies. Well, he was wrong, but got lucky and hit the New World instead. I think it is pretty arrogant to say that Columbus "discovered" the New ... Read More

For a very good, low price, I got a new, special edition of the DVD, Snatch, Guy Ritchie's first major film. Excellent company that delivered.

Worst Bond flick ever. I own all the others, sure glad I rented this one. The scene where a semi trailer is tilted to one side to run with only one set of wheels still on the pavement to avoid a missile is the defining moment of how cheesy this movie is.

I don't know, I don't think it merits more than three stars, in spite of one terrific cast. The plot is not that original and the ending is terribly unsatisfying, even if it is perhaps more true to life. Ed Harris looks great here, but the one to watch is his partner, Benicio Del Toro, who was Rosie Perez' husband in "Fearless". This was filmed before "Blink" which also starred Stowe. Was set in Florida and the house they used - the outside - was georgeous, with one of those wrap-around porches. I kept wondering throughout why they made such a point of showing Stowe's wedding ring flashing. It was distracting since nothing came of it. And no mention of how Stowe connected to Del Toro at all. They don't seem to move in the same circles. Also doesn't make sense that her husband wouldn't give her ... Read More

Really boring film. It is nothing but Hollywood insider humor (and most of that is nothing but petty bitchery) and cameos. If you like to see "stars" sitting around talking (blah, blah, blah) and think that is funny, by all means - this is the film for you.

6.Excess Baggage starring: Alicia Silverstone, Benicio Del Toro, Christopher Walken, Jack Thompson, Harry Connick Jr.

VHS : Excess Baggage
the movie stars Alicia Silverstone as a spoiled rich heiress who fakes
her own kidnapping to gain attention from her father. Benicio Del Toro plays Vincent, a handsome, Marlon-Brando-esque car thief that she meets in the most unexpected way. I, for one, absolutely loved the movie. I loved the movie and even though it stars Alicia Silverstone as Emily T. Hope, Christopher Walken steals the spotlight as Uncle Ray. I saw Excess Baggage a few years ago when I was still in college. Considering how truly sad the world is becoming and how frightening the U.S. is beginning to look, I think people could truly enjoy movies that they can escape in. I can't believe that Alicia Silverstone was nominated for a Razzie, for this movie. In fact, I loved the chemistry between her and Del Toro, whose sleepy looks I think are ... Read More

VHS : The Pledge
While The Pledge will never be included in anyone's list of favorite Jack Nicholson movies. It is none the less a finely crafted film, with great performances by Patricia Clarkson, Benicio Del Toro, Dale Dickey and of course Jack Nicholson. Kudos to Sean Penn for delivering this psychological thriller with such clearity and suspense. There's an erie undercurrent of mystery and intrigue throughout the movie that leaves one feeling unsettled right to the very end.

Having recently made several light comedies, (As Good As It Gets, About Schmidt, The Bucket List and Somethings Gotta Give) all very good movies, Nicholson has had few dramatic roles of late that can compare with the great perfomances he gaves us from Five Easy Pieces (1970) to A Few Good Men (1992). The Pledge (2001) is, in my opinion the last ... Read More
