VHS : The Kid Who Loved Christmas
I first saw this movie on the Lifetime for Women network channel. I thought it was a touching and heartwarming story of a family trying to stay connected despite tragedy and obstacles. It is so refreshing to see African-Americans depicted as what they are: flesh and blood human beings. I rarely see this movie run during the holiday season. I am so glad I was able to purchase this video through an Amazon seller in order that my children see Christmas and the holiday spirit reflected in their beautiful Black images. The movie can be a little over the top with drama, but aren't most holiday movies? This movie needs to be on DVD. I loved the acting and the message of unconditional love and family.

VHS : All That Jazz
Bob Fosse's thinly-veiled autobiographical homage is everything a movie musical should be -- lively, tuneful, funny and even poignant.

With a cast which includes the wonderfully sexy Roy Scheider of Jaws (Widescreen Anniversary Collector's Edition) fame, Fosse acolytes Ann Reinking and Ben Vereen, and a fabulous pre-plastic surgery Jessica Lange as the gorgeous, ever-present Angel of Death, this musical story of a genius Broadway director with a death-wish, is nothing short of mesmerizing.

The story follows Fosse's own life story closely enough to be almost eerie -- even foreshadowing his ultimate demise from heart failure at an out-of-town new play try-out in Washington, D.C., which happened years after this movie was released. But even if it didn't, the movie ... Read More

This is a great movie I enjoy watching this movie with my cousins who also enjoyed it. We love the song with the birdss and got wild and crazy over that song. But my younger cousins got kind of scared of the part with the owel but there okay. I think this movie has alot of teaching to get out on your own an take care of yourself thats what these 3 kids had to do in the movie.

My favorite actress is the very beautiful Tiffany Helm. She is the star of this movie and it's her only starring role in her whole career. The film itself is funny, silly, entertaining and well acted. It is a "piece of nostalgia from the better times". It is supposed to be coming out on DVD from Anchor Bay Entertainment, but it hasn't been released yet. Tiffany and the whole entire cast did a very good job on this film. This VHS is a must for fans of Tiffany Helm and or Jason Gedrick.

Background: I've seen Pippin 3 times on B'way, worked as make-up artist for over a dozen regional productions, and taught the play for years as the culmination of a course on poetry. In its original incarnation, Pippin is a production rich in allegory and metaphor, both visual and verbal, which becomes more meaningful with each viewing.

That said, executive producer David Sheehan's truncated televersion of the play cuts--no, slashes--so much of the production that it becomes devoid of both continuity and logic. First, the music: almost every number has a verse deleted, and one complete song (Catherine's "I Guess I'll Miss the Man") has been excised. As this song immediately foreshadows the events of the finale, its elimination is unforgivable.

As for the book, various exchanges among ... Read More

Having studied the abduction phenomenon in some depth, and being acquainted with all the published work of Budd Hopkins, John Mack and David Jacobs over 20 years with thousands of abductees, I had low expectations of a dramatized movie doing justice to this enormous and detailed subject.

But wow, what a surprise. The movie really is good. It could be watched by a viewer very familiar with the subject, or one to whom the subject matter might be new and unknown, and both would find it absorbing and compulsive viewing. The screenplay is very strong, the plot line thoughtful in its development and the direction and editing really first class. The actors are all excellent, and the slow conversion of the psychiatrist character to acceptance of the phenomenon as real in the face of the mounting evidence ... Read More
