VHS : Heavyweights
when i was growing up i used to watch a lot of the dumbest children's shows ever. the disney channel was responsible for a lot of the then goofy humor that everyone now doesn't appreciate that much. in the mid 90's i remember watching the mighty ducks, honey i shrunk the kids, honey i blew up the kid, blank check etc.., then along came a movie called heavyweights. when i first saw this movie i couldn't stop laughing at the stupid humor these kids could come up with, but what i thought made the movie was ben stiller as "uncle" tony perkis. his whole attitude and mannerisms in this movie are his best work i think he has ever and will ever do. some of the funniest moments in this movie seem like they could happen at any camp. the quotes from this movie will stay burned in my brain forever. when tony ... For some reason there is a huge circle of film snobs (cinaphiles, movie buffs) who absolutely hate this film. I can understand to an extent, but not seeing the films central glistening facet is to ignore what is right in front of your eyes. Yes, even the vilest of movie critics; even someone who detests everything that is so Hollywood about Steven Spielberg will tell you that Christian Bale delivers quite possibly the finest child acting performance of all time.

That said; I don't hate this movie.

The film tells the story of young Jamie Graham, a twelve-year-old British boy living with his family in China. During World War II Jamie is separated from his family and finds himself in an interment camp struggling to survive in a world that was once so familiar but is now so strange. ... Read More

Drew Barrymore and Ben Stiller make this a funny movie by being a couple who buy a house they love and upstairs there is an annoying old lady who makes them do stuff and if they say no she says something that makes them want to help her. Then they get so annoyed they try to kill her. Also, Drew and Ben also want the upstairs because they want to have a family. I couldn't see the ret of this because when I saw this it was late and I was frightened of what would happen next. Anyway it's a funny cute movie and it couldn't be better without Drew and Ben.

Mel Coplin (Ben Stiller), the adopted son of two neurotic New Yorkers (Mary Tyler Moore and George Segal) feels that he can't name his new born baby until he finds his roots. This leads to him taking off on a cross-country road trip with his wife (Patricia Arquette), his baby and a woman from his adoption agency (Tea Leoni), which, as the title suggests, leads them from one comical disaster to another.

I have now seen all of David O. Russell's films, and of his four films (the other three being "Spanking the Monkey", "Three Kings" and "I Heart Huckabees"), "Flirting with Disaster" is the one that I had the hardest time making it through. It took me two attempts to make it to the end of this film, and the only reason why I kept going the second time was because I'm a completist and wanted to be able to say ... Read More

I never watched any of the original Starsky & Hutch, but being a fan of Todd Phillips, Vince Vaughn, and Ben Stiller I loved this movie. Snoop does a great job playing Huggy Bear. If you want to laugh and be entertained then you should get this movie.

No matter how many times I watch this DVD it never fails to knock me to the floor with laughter. The Ben Stiller -v- Puffy always gets me. Interesting to see the behind the scenes stuff too. Classic movie.

Great acting from Liam Neeson and Patrick Swayze. Wish some who reviewed the movie had watched it more carefully. Gerald (Truman's brother) wasn't doing anything illegal, he worked for a company with vending machines who were targeted by the Chicago mob for takeover--he got caught in a takeover mob killing. And Truman's (Swayze) brother's name was Briar (so typically mountain)--not Blair. And a reviewer wondered how Briar (Neeson) knew Chicago so well since he had never been there--Briar clearly states at Gerald's funeral he HAS been to Chicago and didn't like it, he returned home to Ky.--so that's why he knew his way around town. Both Neeson and Swayze do a great job in expressing the culture of the "hills" versus the Chicago life. Helen Hunt is good as Truman's (Swayze) wife. The scenes of the hills when Truman takes Gerald's ... Read More

This one won't solve any world problems, but as a night's entertainment, you could do worse. The chemistry isn't really there between Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston, but she's always fun to look at anyway. There are really only a couple of funny scenes: Ben in Jen's bathroom, and the fake French dialect of the St. Bart's beach boy. The rest is fairly routine. No great loss if you miss this, but nothing risked by watching, either.
