This movie has a following, but as a Gary Cooper fan I don't think it's one of his best though good. I also have noticed the very high prices asked. In my experience on Amazon,if you don't purchase those very high priced ones they will come down. Cannery Row is an example. Not long ago I purchased a copy in poor shape for $25.71, now you can get a good one for around $16.00. When this gets down to a reasonable amount ,I will consider purchasing a copy. Maybe with luck it will be shown on TCM.

Another great 70s film that was made into a poor 21st century film. This film is matter of fact without loud music and greatly exaggerated mugging passing off as acting. Yes, the characters are exaggerated for effect but not like acting is now. The story and the movie are more subtle but the story is classic cinema. A horrible, pathetic kids little league team is coached by a hopeless alcoholic. Somehow with the recruitment of a GIRL! Everyone gets their act together and plays pretty well. The ultimate lesson is that it's only a game and character is far more important. See the better baseball team with the lousy kids on the other team and terrible parents for reference!

Super fabulous B movie! My Mom took me to see this in the movie theater many moons ago, & I was scared to death! Now, I laugh & absolutely LOVE this movie, great actors, B movie effects, Monument Valley Arizona & all! Very special, they just don't make 'em like this anymore!

VHS : When Every Day Was the Fourth of July
With Dean Jones in the lead role you can't go wrong. The story chronicles the trial of a mute war hero who is on trial for his life. An ex-attorney (Jones) is asked by his young daughter to defend the mute with a surprise verdict and ending. This show was originally considered for a series but was rejected by the studios because it was too clean (no potential sex or violence story lines). Great story, cinematography and score. For more background on this film, read Dean Jones' autobiography "Under Running Laughter" where he devotes 2-3 chapters. Jones took this role due to its clean storyline and his no compromise beliefs concerning his Christian faith and his desire to do family-friendly films. Plenty of cameos in this film.

6.Children of an Lac starring: Shirley Jones, Ina Balin, Beulah Quo, Alan Fudge, Ben Piazza

Wonderfully acted. The scenes in the mental institution are very realistic, sad, & disturbing. Kathleen Quinlan is incredible as Deborah & Bibi Andersson gives a very sensitive, heartfelt performance as her caring psychiatrist. Interesting to note that the theme of antisemitism in the book which affected Deborah was omitted from the movie. Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this.
I was disappointed in the DVD quality. This film deserved better.

This is a good gem of a movie well worth viewing. My dad was in the oil business and I remember hearing about this movie when it was being filmed in and around Midland, Texas. I grew up in Midland and was about 12 at the time. My mom heard when and where the final climactic scene was to be filmed, so we went out on the location and stood around for a good while with other curious on-lookers.

We had a good time that day. We were positioned over by some trailers and, at one point, Anne Archer walked right by us to get ready for the scene. Another interesting thing I remember is that this scene turned out somewhat differently in the final cut of the film. I remember an extra actor was in the scene that day. I believe he was one of the regular characters on the TV series Grizzly Adams a few years prior. I was surprised ... Read More
