VHS : Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein
I ordered this dvd from another seller listed with Amazon. I ordered this dvd on Oct. 19th. To date i still have not received it. I have sent several emails to the seller and to Amazon and have had no contact from the seller yet. I will never order from a seller listed with Amazon again. If i can't get it directly from Amazon, then i guess i just don't need it.

VHS : Island of Lost Souls
I can only guess. It's not released due to hints of beastiality in the movie Island of Lost Souls??? IF so that's just rubbish.

Island of Lost Souls is a great, classic Friday night B&W horror flick that no collection should be without. Period. But we are forced to have a VHS or cheap bootleg. Mystery Of the Wax Museum is hardly a point of discussion here, a nice to have, but Island is a MUST HAVE!

Here is exactly what we need in a collection:
Island Of Lost Souls
Murders In The Zoo
House Of Horrors
The Mad Ghoul

Now how cool of a collection would that be???

HELLO Universal!!! Anyone home??

VHS : Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman
Before there was Freddy Vs Jason there was Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man. I suppose it was only fitting this would happen sooner or later seeing as Universal was behind the Monster movies so why not take advantage of it? This was the first of the crossover movies and quite possibly the best although this movie is far from perfect and does have its fair share of flaws.

Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein are two of the greatest horror flicks ever made due to the brilliant performance by Boris Karloff and the direction by James Whale, but after Whale left the series Son of Frankenstein just didn't fully work, while I think the movie was overall good and Karloff was solid he wasn't used the way he was in the past two and he was wise to leave the series afterwards and that's where ... VHS : Wolf Man (1941)
Ok, this is another Universal monster movie, but an excellent one! The money spent on this production was pretty hefty. Claude Rains, Ralph Bellamy, Lon Chaney Jr. and others. Wow! Poor Lon Chaney Jr. loves a girl but gets attacked by a wolf. Poor guy, he ends up having some really sleepless nights when a full moon appears. What to do? Maybe Bela Legosi as a gypsy can help? Or that lady gypsy, does she know anything?

VHS : Abbott & Costello Meet the Monsters Collection
Students graduate from the Dugan Detective School, among them Bud and Lou. They begin working the night shift and get their first client, who takes them to a house. Tommy Nelson wants the serum to make himself invisible! It's the only way he can escape the police. They don't believe Lou, and have him examined. There is a skit over passing the bucks. The special effects are good. Lou demonstrates his boxing skills at the gym. "Louie the Looper" will get a match with Rocky Hanlon. There is a plan to catch those responsible for killing O'Hara, the manager of Tommy Nelson. The skits are funny, but you can see the boys are older and less active.

The story continues with drama and comedy. Invisible Tommy will punch Rocky in the ring. But Tommy leaves the ring to listen to Morgan. He returns in time to win the fight ... Read More

"I go to visit an old friend," says Dr. Vitus Werdegast to Peter and Joan Alison, the young newlyweds he meets on the train moving through a rain-swept night. Their destination is the small, picturesque village of Vizhegrad that had been the site of a horrendous battle during the Great War. They board a bus and the driver tells them, "All of this country was one of the greatest battlefields of the war. Tens of thousands of men died here. The ravine down there was piled twelve deep with dead and wounded men. The little river below was swollen red, a raging torrent of blood. And that high hill yonder where Engineer Poelzig now lives was the site of Fort Marmorus. He built his home on its very foundations. Marmorus, the greatest graveyard in the world." Then the bus swerves and crashes in the driving rain, leaving the driver ... Read More

VHS : Black Cat (1941)
I never saw this film growing up and I'm sure it was because of the confusion with the earlier classic Universal film with the same title starring Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi(1934). 'The Black Cat' listed here is a murder/mystery/comedy from 1941. The film stars Basil Rathbone and Bela Lugosi in a fun supporting character. I did like this fun film full of secret passages and things that go bump in the night. This is available on DVD on a 2 disc set called Universal Horror and it is a limited release only sold at Best Buy. The DVD transfers for all 5 of the films are very good. I rate this film 3 1/2 stars.

VHS : Ed Wood - Look Back in Angora
When we slightly twisted fans of Ed Wood discuss the merits of his work, we must bear in mind that the very nature of it wreaks havoc on our grading scale. How does one actually assess anything having to do with Ed when best is worst and good is bad?

This very funny 50 minute documentary cleverly written and directed by Ted Newsom and featuring the narration of Gary Owens is excellent in that it fully achieves its goal. What is that goal? To take an irreverent snapshot of the life and "achievements" of Ed Wood, Hollywood's Horrible Hack. And that's good! See, now yer catchin' on.

The instantly recognizable voice of Gary Owens, with his mock seriousness is a dog 'n' flea collar fit for 'LOOK BACK IN ANGORA.' (The title alone tells you what to expect.) The slapdash style of this documentary mimics the slipshod ... Read More

VHS : Dracula
Guess who's a scarier actor than Bela Lugosi? Dwight Frye. I saw this as a little kid and I didn't even notice Mr. Lugosi. For all I cared, they could have cast Chico Marx or Lou Costello in the title role and it would have been almost as scary. I'm still having nightmares about the entymophage, his eyes protruding like Peter Lorre's, pleading for mercy in his choirboy tenor.
