VHS : Formula
According the classic established patterns of the narrative line of the great Frederick Forsythe 's this suspenseful picture begins with just at the End of the WW2, when a German Officer is captured with important documents which originally would become a decisive deal to firm an armistice due the potent and extraordinary finding, that previously had been a successful discover; suddenly we go to 1980 in the middle of a simple murderer but on the road, the investigation will interweave with impressive consequences as a true spider 's web.

A very brief but still engaging appearance of Marlon Brando, but George Scott leads the film in the ninety five per cent of the whole shots. Martha Keller is fabulous and John Gielguld is splendid too.

An intriguing plot with a subject ... Read More

VHS : Robert Kennedy & His Times
Brad Davis gives an uncannily believable and realistic performance as Robert Kennedy in this sentimental but mostly accurate film that does a great deal to capture both RFK and the spirit and political climate of the 1960's. A great film for anyone who needs a flavor for the man, or the times in which he lived.

G.D. Spradlin puts in a strong performance as Lyndon Johnson, whom the Kennedys viewed as an illegitmate usurper in the wake of JFK's assassination -- the tension between the two camps is faithfully recreated. Ned Beatty is passable as the Kennedy-hating J. Edgar Hoover, but Jack Warden and Cliff de Young are horribly miscast as Joe Kennedy, Sr. and JFK, respectively. Warden frankly doesn't look the part and fails to convey the domineering influence Old Joe had over his sons until ... Read More

Goldie Hawn shows a new and even better side of her acting skils in this suspence drama, and she doesn't even have to rely on her beautiful long legs to hold the audience's attention. This is an intense thriller with many turns of events which is highly recommended as good entertainment.

VHS : Bloodline
BLOODLINE, based on the novel by Sidney Sheldon, is a good movie if only to see the radiant Audrey Hepburn in one of her final acting roles. She plays Elizabeth Roffe, who inherits her father's pharmaceutical empire following his mysterious death. Facing opposition and downright hostility from the board members (who also happen to be Roffe relations), Elizabeth's own life soon becomes threatened.

A boring script and meandering plot are the main factors why BLOODLINE never really catches fire; despite a star-studded international cast which boasts James Mason, Ben Gazzara, Irene Papas, Romy Schneider and Claudia Mori. The sweeping, haunting musical score is provided by Ennio Morricone.

Audrey Hepburn bravely leads the charge with an intelligent and sympathetic portrait as Elizabeth; ... Read More

I saw this movie as a kid when it first came out and it scared me to death. It played on all my childhood fears (monsters in the closet, attacking trees, and creepy clowns!). As an adult, obviously it is not so scary but still well made, humorous at times, and entertaining. I liked it enough that I wanted to add it to our home movie collection to enjoy over and over. I recommend it to anyone who likes a good ghost story.

VHS : Power (1986)
I was educated, enlightened and entertained by this film two decades ago, and I still am. The lines in it are witty and they capture a political life perfectly. There are a lot of great moments - the pollster/computer guy Ralph explaining his work to candidate Fritz Weaver, Gere chastising a governor's assistant for petty bureaucratic moves which could jeopardize the campaign, Hackman drunkenly chastising Gere about taking on perverted candidates, Christie ferreting out E.G. Marshall's reasons for senate retirement.... Yes, there are a lot of plots and it can get chaotic. But that is so true of political campaign life. I love the pieces where they create television ads for the candidates. Brilliant, brilliant film. Why aren't there more films from writer David Himmelstein?!
