In a time in which many documentaries are short on details and long on broad strokes and generalizations, I cannot overstate the quality of this video and the entire series. The detail and research which went into these documentaries is outstanding. As the other reviewers have noted, the series focuses on the battle from a number of different angles and tie the strategic planning, tactics, and results to the broader context of the Second World War. Although each of the videos stands on its own, together they create a most effective narrative of the ebb and flow of WWII. As a connoisseur on the subject, I cannot think of a higher recommendation or of a documentary which has provided more utility than Battlefield.

This series is easily the best set of documentaries on the great battles of The Second World War. It includes excellent computer generated graphics illustrating the positions and dynamics of the battles as they unfolded. Certainly, these docs would serve as ideal teaching aids and seem to have been designed to hold the interest of young students. I would recomend the entire series to anyone interested in history whether they be an enthusiast or just eager to gain some understanding.

This series is easily the best set of documentaries on the great battles of The Second World War. 4.Civil War Battlefields (7pc) starring: Civil War Battlefields March 28, 2000

On first glance, this 4 1/2 hour series is about Civil War battlefields. When you watch it though, you discover that the company recycles the same blurred out "artsy" video clips in every single video and throws in choppy simulations of silent films that, upon first glance, appear to be scenes from "Birth of a Nation." They aren't. It is just as well that it's blurred because it covers up some of the defects of this low scale fiasco. The company is based in Eugene, Oregon, and it seems doubtful that they ever left that state even to take reenactment footage. A blurred out clip of Burnsides Bridge was used for both Manassas, Sharpsburg and Fredericksburg.
