VHS : The Pallisers, Set 2
The second set of DVDs in the BBC 26-part series "The Pallisers" from the mid 1970s is every bit as good as the first, and features at its core superb performances by Barbara Murray as the sharp and cagey Madame Max Goesler, Philip Latham as the stodgy but goodhearted Plantagent Palliser, and the charming Susan Hampshire as his impish wife, Lady Glencora. These DVDs cover the actions of Trollope's key novels in the Palliser sequence, PHINEAS FINN and THE EUSTACE DIAMONDS, which detail the doings among the highest political and moneyed set in the United Kingdom of the 1860s. They bring in several new characters, including the tiny, scheming, melodramatic Lizzie Eustace (Sarah Badel), the bumptious Adelaide Palliser (Jo Kendall), and the lazy and entitled dandy Gerald Maule (Jeremy Clyde, late ... VHS : Johnny Got His Gun
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's about a young American soldier named Johnny who gets hit by a shell on the last day of the First World War. Johnny lies in a hospital bed, a quadruple amputee who has lost his eyes, ears, mouth and nose. His only means of communication is by banging his head against his pillow. As the movie progresses you get inside Johnny's head by means of a series of flashbacks and fantasy sequences. We learn about Johnny's failed shoe salesman father, his first, and last night with the woman he loves, his pre war job in the local bakery. I was so moved by the nurse in the movie. She finds a way to communicate with Johnny and her kindness to him should inspire us all. So, what's this movie all about? Well it's a damning indictment of war, obviously, and a strange one at that. ... Read More

The acting is absolutely superb. I was a bit disappointed at the very end. I had hoped that the future duke would have followed tradition and focus on his duty not his heart.

Leads to understanding profound truths through a mix of eye candy and clear ideas, lags a teeny bit in places, but generally a magnet for ideas leading to AHA's. I loved it, as I do most of Gregg's productions.

never say you "have it bad" until you have walked in someone elses shoes..everyone has troubles..
this play tells the story from the other side..and everybody has a story..you are not the only one..

this is the story of "working"
I love the dvd .. and it is the best for the year of 1982..the play was from the year 1978 and it was on a stage.. the only thing is ..the actor "david patrick kelly " sings a song called "the mason" which was from the play. but is not on this dvd ..it has been cut from this ..he has a great voice and is a fantastic actor even today..I am sorry to have missed seeing that part being I am such a big fan of his .
the play was shot for the tv station PBS and is in "play form"
the film was remastered and sound is great also.
there are so many good actors in it as well some are ... Read More

This movie is truly great and Katie Holmes is at her best. I think that just about every kid in school would love to do what they did and I constantly watch it because it is a very good film in my opinion.

VHS : Sorority Boys
I thought this was a very funny movie! Barry Watson, Harland Williams and Michael Rosenbaum all did an awesome job pretending to be women. After being framed for stealing money from their sorority, Dave, Adam, and Doofer get booted from the K.O.K. house. Doofer knows that there is proof in their room that can show that they're innocent. They disguise as women and go to the all-girl party, but they are kicked out because all the guys think they're ugly. They are helped by the girls at the D.O.G. house, who are considered "nerds." Throughout the time dressing as girls, Dave, Adam, and Doofer are treated badly by the chauvinistic guys at K.O.K. and soon realize that they used to to that to women, and should have never treated them badly. Dave falls in love with Leah, the sexy leader of the D.O.G. house. Leah is sick of being treated like crap. Dave, Adam, and Doofer ... Read More

VHS : the Wild Geese
This movie is SO much better than "The Dogs of War". It has far more action and far more interesting characters. Unlike other reviewers, I feel the story is timeless, corruption of fledgling countries still goes on. All the actors are PERFECT, and NOT too old. It's a final payday, and they are experienced, so therefore they are not thirty.
The violence, at times, is graphic. The ill-trained African Army gets slaughtered in large groups, but the "Geese" also pay a high cost. No total happy ending, they don't make films like this anymore; movies today are primarily big robots, super-heroes and other toys. "The Wild Geese" is easily in my top ten.
