VHS : Murder By Phone
I've watched my video copy of this movie twice. Enjoyed it both times. Plot may be kind of crazy, but so what? It's still a fun movie. The plot has been described successfully by another reviewer, so I'll not waste time describing it again.

Main reason I'm writing this "review". Here in the United States, this movie is known as MURDER BY PHONE. It was released on Warner Home Video. It runs 80 mins. I have a copy of it. BUT, THIS MOVIE WAS A CANADIAN-MADE FEATURE AND THE ORIGINAL RUNNING TIME WAS 95 MINS. IT WAS EDITED BY 15 MINS. FOR ITS AMERICAN RELEASE. HOW DO I KNOW THIS, YOU MAY ASK? WELL, SINCE YOU'VE GOT THIS FAR I WILL GLADLY EXPLAIN. I ALSO HAVE A VIDEO COPY ON THE ASTRAL VIDEO LABEL FROM CANADA. RELEASED IN 1983. RUNNING TIME IS 95 MINS AS STATED ON BACK OF THE BOX. TITLE ON ... Read More

VHS : The Changeling
This is a truly scary movie, in the old fashioned sense. That is to say, it makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up without the gut-wrenching gore that seems to permeate the newer installments of the horror genre.

George C. Scott and then-wife Trish Van Devere both do credit to their roles and Vancouver does a great job in its role of Seattle as well.

Loved this movie and plan to watch it every Hallowe'en.

This is a riveting and brilliant production on all levels, for those who enjoy good drama, eloquent dialogue and the great acting skills found in British theater.

By contrast, the recent Merchant Ivory film is revealed as banal, vulgar, and dumbed down. The BBC's Charlotte is a great heroine. Uma Thurman's is a boring, neurotic wretch. She makes you wonder what all the fuss is about.

VHS : Sadat
Made less than two years after Sadat's assassination, the movie makes him out to be a saint. Sadat was no saint, he was a man and he had his faults like any other.

The movie compresses many events in Sadat's life. It appears that both prison sentences he served early in his life are portrayed as a single event. Also, his role in the pro-Nazi Free Officers is not discussed at all, nor would you know that Sadat was jailed while Britain and the Allies were fighting for their lives when Sadat started trying to undermine them.

Given the circumspect nature of the film many key events, formation of the United Arab Republic, Egyptian involvement in Yemen, the War of Attrition etc. are not discussed. However, the film does attempt to convey the byzantine nature of military politics which ran the country ... Read More

My daughter has to do a paper on the book of the same title. It was interesting to watch this, in large part philosophical, and yet silly production as far as astronauts camping out on Mars and drinking. Some interesting ideas from Bradbury come across well.

I was impressed by the dual act of Chris Sarandon.

I took one star because the movie did not show much of the characters' passion!

Two men are in love with one woman. It would be hard for her to choose so one of them scarified himself for her happiness. The movie ends with her tears (Alice Krige) as she discovers his true feelings and the sacrifice he made.

It remains one of my favorite movies!
