VHS : Last of the Dogmen
Last Of The Dog Men ranks right up there with Dreamkeeper for me. This is a beautiful film to look at.With a great story and musical score. Like a great book,it grabs you from the beginning and carries you through till the end. The acting by all,is superb,as well.

How it treats the issue of this last surviving tribe is especially respectful and satisfying.

Once viewed, the scenery will never be forgotten. I don't believe anyone could be disappointed in this film.

VHS : Hoosiers
Hoosier is a great sports movie and great storytelling. Shot in 1986 as a early 50s period piece, it will remain timeless. Hoosiers is the standard underdog sports movie, but a carefully crafted script with complex characters, great acting, and a superb music score lift it far above most of the other films in the genre.

Hoosiers is also the story of two men's struggle for redemption. A mature aspect of the script is that Coach Dale is not portrayed as wrongly accused or even justified in his prior actions. He really did do something dreadful as a coach a decade previously and he continues to struggle against the same impulses that threaten to destroy his life. This makes him sympathetic to one of the player's father who is wrecking all the lives around him with a different self ... Read More

I recorded this one back in the early nineties from HBO and I still have it.

Naturally, by today's standards, it looks awful. But since I like the story and the acting in it, I am willing to forget about its flaws in picture quality.

Yet, as for so many other little "jewels and gems" out there, seemingly nobody has the time to find a pristine copy and slam it onto DVD...

Is it because in this case, it was produced by The Cannon Group, a production company long gone, who was managed by the Golan-Globus team?

OK, so the company does not exist anymore, but has anybody thought at buying the rights and make it their own?
Just as it has happened for really crappy movies in the past?

Perhaps crap is better than art.

I also remember having ... Read More

VHS : Public Eye
I have enjoyed this movie more times than I can remember. Joe Pesci is perfect as the scrappy tabloid photographer who at heart feels that what he is doing is also an ART. The film is about vindicating himself as an artist and reclaiming his personal life as a man, after sacrificing so much because he is driven to capture the ultimate picture in his work and living for so long seemingly as a bum. Anyone who is an artist or creative type is likely to get a great deal of enjoyment out of this unusual story where the main characters come from two completely different backgrounds and yet are irresistibly drawn together. The relationship between Pesci and Barbara Hershey is compelling and has many unexpected twists and turns: there's always some suspicion going on between them that complicates their relationship way out ... VHS : Stunt Man
By 1980, the year THE STUNT MAN was released, Peter O'Toole and his peers -- that infamous troupe of besotted British actors which included Richard Burton, Robert Shaw and Richard Harris -- were considered anachronisms by Hollywood. Fast living had aged them beyond their years, but more to the point, these classically trained Europeans, their mannered acting styles designed to project to the last rows of the Old Vic, seemed hopelessly dated compared with the introspective naturalism of America's latest generation of rising Method actors, led by De Niro. For the most part, this lot was best remembered by American audiences for their historical costume dramas and World War II epics of the '60s -- the kinds of films nobody was making anymore.

For O'Toole in particular, the glory days of LAWRENCE OF ARABIA were ... Read More

Hello all! I hope my review helps. This is a true story, which happened in my hometown of Humboldt, TN. The character "Emma" is actually still alive. It's interesting to see how the whole town (if I may be so liberal to call it such)..still "shuns" her. I could hardly believe something like this happened in my home. My mom shared the story with me when I was 17, but I didn't get to see the movie until some years later. Oddly enough...things of this nature are still occuring in big cities and small towns.

Visually, I would rate this film five stars. And, I'm certain, that those reviewers who see past this film's flaws and award the film four or five stars are rewarding the stunning visuals. But, dramatically, its barely a three (and that's being generous), because, unfortunatley, it seems, that Campion is far more interested in period detail and far more fascinated with various costume choices and interior designs than she is in allowing her actual characters to do or say interesting things. No one in this film is alive. This is, in part, the theme of the film (and Henry James' fiction in general): everyone, in some way, is living a stifled life. But, it is a problem when the sets are infused with more color & life than the actual people. Mary-Louise Parker (whose eccentric bespectacled performance is the most memorable ... Read More

9.Last Temptation of Christ starring: Willem Dafoe, Harvey Keitel, Barbara Hershey, Paul Greco, Steve Shill

VHS : Last Temptation of Christ
The Last Temptation of Christ is not quite a weird movie. If you're expecting profound blasphemy and other good stuff, this is actually tame like a punk that bought all their outfit at Hot Topic. For one thing, the movie dares show Jesus might have had a different mind than most people, one prone to breakdown that might lead him to imagine he's God. But there's not much point to showing this side since he is also shown performing every miracle. There's no dispute in the film to his superhuman status, which makes the fact that this film was so controversial very funny. Jesus comes across as kind of a spacey neurotic and more than a bit unprepared to be the magical son of God, but still it's faithful to Christianity in message. Much of his fear and doubt are just interpretation of the Bible and common sense take on the character. ... Read More
