Well, it must be a good movie, since I never forgot what I have seen when I was 11. This movie was one of the first we got to watch in Bavaria, after the war. I am a little older now, but would like to see it again, mayby in the original, why not? Johannes.

As much as I'd like to think that my debate career was on the same line as College football quarterback, some how it just didn't have the same impact. I viewed this movie the same way geologists viewed 10.0 and Astonomers viewed Armageddon. It was pretty laughable. Knowing that Tom Miller, UCLA Debate coach, was the consultant for this movie explains it all. I truly believe that this movie expresses how he views himself

VHS : Ulysses
Kirk Douglas was simply outstanding in this legendary epic saga of Ulysses; King of Ithaca, husband of Penelope: The script is based in the most relevant and emotive sequences of Homer's Odyssey; with magnificent special effects, the encounter with the one' eye giant, the mermaid's songs, the spelling of Circe in what we will find out one of the most expressive, gratifying and ethic confrontations, when Circe proposes him to be God and he replies: there are still major gifts, like to be born, to die and in the middle of the interval: to be a man!

An excellent recreation of Ulysses searching for his return to Ithaca.

I bought this set being a HUGE Bob Hope fan! I have been wanting to complete my road series and I couldn't resist when I came upon this box set. No this not the complete set but it does include some of the great trips that Bob and Bing took together. There is nothing like a Bob Hope and Bing Crosby movie and the picture is so clear. The restoration is amazing. I highly recommend this set to anyone looking for a good family movie to watch or to someone who just loves Bob Hope or Bing Crosby. These are classic movies that will entertain people for years and years to come!

Dear Amazon,
Recently I have purcahsed the video tape of Sibab The Sailor starring Douglas Fairbanks and Maureen O 'Hara. Iam very disappoimnted this time as the quality of this video tape is not good at all. I have purchased a ne w video tape but unfortunely the color of the film is no longer clear and almost has become black & white instead of a color film.I will not purchase any classic video tape any longer in the near future. I presume all quality of these classic film on VHS are too old to be purchased.

Thus says Barbara Stanwyck as only she can to Gary Cooper who then proceeds to nearly choke the liver out of her!! This film is lambasted by most critics (who don't know anything). But it is a fun movie to watch from start to finish! The characterizations by the principals are first-rate with Stanwyck the stand out. No one could beat her in a Western. And she's a baddie to boot, rotten to the core. Quinn and Cooper are excellent as well! With a haunting score (Frankie Laine singing the title song)this Western is a dandy.

Orange Park, FL. Fyi...i have both on VHS and have played them over and over and over again.
Both are on my list of 'Top 10 Favorite Movies' since MY birth in '32.
How many out there, who have watched VivaZapata as closely as i have, noticed one minor flaw that did not make it to the cutting room floor or directors retake of the scene?...when Brando is taken captive by the soldiers and taken off walking behind their horses, rope around his neck and hands tied behind his back, then Tony Quinn and partner jump on their horses and take off like mad to inform the farmers about what has happened...a pistol pops out of the right holster and falls to the ground. (one might just assume they came back for it when noticed it gone?...who knows, and it sure did not ruin the movie for me, but i always look for that ... Read More

I have copied some of Lawrance M. Bernabo's cogent review and edited it to my view:

The plot of this 85-minute black & white comedy has Bob Hope as Lawrence Lawrence (Larry), a radio star who has made his reputation as a muckraker. Fleeing from a murder in a hotel he mistakenly thinks he committed, he ends up in the trunk of Mary Carter (Paulette Goddard) who is on her way to Cuba, where she has inherited the haunted Black Island and its haunted Castillo Maldito. Once on the island, Mary runs into the charming Parada (Paul Lukas), her old friend Geoff Montgomery (Richard Carlson), and the surviving scheming Mederos twin (Anthony Quinn and Anthony Quinn). Meanwhile, at the castle awaiting Larry and Mary are the Mother Zombie (Virginia Brissac) and her giant zombie son (Noble Johnson). Larry and his trusted valet Alex ... Read More

Excellent portrayal of the life of Vincent Van Gogh. With the inclusion of Van Gogh's actual work, it is a visual delight.

VHS : The Secret of Santa Vittoria
"Secret of Santa Vittoria" is a wonderfully flavorful comic drama whose major fault can be overlength which is apparent in the film's second half. Anthony Quinn, whose made a garden industry out of playing earthy peasant types(I wasn't a big fan of Zorba), is totally winning as the town clown, Italo Bombolini, foisted into the position of mayor on the eve of the German occupation in the waning days of World War II. The town's lifeblood is it's wine supply and the German's intentions are to abscond with it and it's up to the fool Bombolini to outsmart the master race. Hardy Kruger is equally fine as a German officer torn by gentility and his desire not to look foolish in front of these "barbarians". Anna Magnani shines as Bombolini's hard-bitten long-suffering spouse. The film looks great and you get a real sense of community here. A ... Read More
