I agree with everybody that has posted reviews about this movie, but the ones that have only 1 or 2 stars. In the style of Gone With the Wind, the novel shows how families were at first united, then separated during the conflict. I am familiar with the historical facts and that is why I could follow the locations and time, but someone who has not read the book or know little about the true facts would be a little lost. I was lucky to get this movie on DVD. The sound and the colors are great, the photography is very good, the landscapes and the sets believable, picture is sharp except for the stolen parts from an earlier movie. One of the local vid stores used to do 2-for-Tuesdays, two video's for a full week for 99 cents, my daughter LOVED this movie and rented it so many times that the store owner gave it to her. Lo and behold she actually wore her copy out, and just in time for her birthday (16) it arrived safe and sound and in very decent shape, I kudo's the seller. Her birthday was March 31 and she has plugged her Gnome in a few times already. A chipper family movie with some over the top snicker factors. Low Rider has never sounded the same after viewing Norm version.

loveable geek Anthony Micheal Hall is fantastic in this action film with some other soon to be great stars such as Jenny wright ( forest gump, the crossing guard, near dark ) and meat loaf to name a few. great action suspense and great to see the geek get to be a real man for a change, and the villian adds the weight needed to make Anthony's ressurection from geek to street wise player

I saw this wonderful movie in 1990 when it first came out. I was already a Tim Burton fan of sorts, but this made me a Burton fanatic. I saw it first with my wife, and I remember thinking at the very beginning, when Danny Elfman's haunting, beautiful score was only a few notes old, that I was going to love this film. And I did. It just hit me right in the heart, in the most vulnerable, deepest part of my soul. I know that sounds pretentious, but it's the best I can do with my limited writing ability.
