The price on this tape was great and the delivery was very timely. The tape box shows wear (as stated) but the tape is in excellent condition. I would certainly use this seller again without hesitation.

VHS : Surviving Picasso
I have looked for this movie for years to come on DVD...but alas it hasn't happened yet. This movie, which is based on a book, truly shows what it was like to have to live (or 'survive' as you will) with someone who is egocentric and artistic. I don't understand why people wanted this movie to explain Picasso as a person...the title tell you its about someone who SURVIVED Picasso. This man didn't want to be understood. He didn't care about that so appreciate this movie for what it is, a great example of how someone can almost be 'swallowed' whole by another larger than life figure but who is able to transcend all that and stand on their own in the end. This movie has so many great aspects to it outside of the acting so I urge people to give this movie a chance because it is a fantastic journey from beginning ... Read More

VHS : Nixon
As a filmmaker I appreciate Oliver Stone, his provactive, political, conspiratorial, curious, enigmatic, ominous visions of Americana are the stuff of high entertainment. Right or wrong, his works are wonderful cinema, it doesn't matter if his version is slanted to the left, it is a distinct vision and he is skilled at executing it.
Be that as it may Nixon is no JFK. Though both are named for presidents of the same era, one is about a murder and it's associate conspiracies-presented in staggering detail, while the other is a psychological Greek-styled high drama of a hugely important personality, flawed and potent, crumbling and explosive.
Anthony Hopkins disappears into the role, and as these things usually do, a great actor and a great part/material make the best of art. Hopkins makes Nixon the uncomfortable, ... Read More

Nice reproduction. It was originally filmed in great quality. Not real sure if the Blue-ray version is that much better. I viewed it on a 720p 42" LCD. But the price made it worth it.

VHS : Chaplin
In the hands of director Richard Attenborough, Charlie Chaplin's life story becomes a sweeping and touching drama. Robert Downey, Jr. gives an unforgettable performance as Chaplin, who rose from the slums of London to become Hollywood's favorite silent movie character, the Tramp. Along the way, Charlie had to deal with his mother's insanity, his love affairs, marriages, and a paternity scandal, all involving much younger women, and investigation by none other than J. Edgar Hoover.

This very entertaining story vividly recreates the beginnings of the movie industry. The sets and costumes are magnificent, as is the John Barry soundtrack, which features Chaplin's own song, "Smile." Downey gives the performance of a lifetime playing a controversial but ultimately very likeable hero over a span of sixty years. He oozes charisma.

8.Hamlet (1969) starring: Nicol Williamson, Judy Parfitt, Anthony Hopkins, Marianne Faithfull, Mark Dignam

VHS : Hamlet (1969)
Tony Richardson has not received ample praise for successfully transferring a Shakespeare play to cinema in this marvelous film. Watch how Olivier grapples with the problem in films such as Henry V and then see how simply Richardson dissolves the question of whether what we see is on a stage or is supposed to be in a real-world setting by filming the actors in closeup predominantly and keeping the setting genuinely "in the background"--and a shadowy one at that. It helps that he filmed Hamlet, of course, set in the moody castle at Elsinore. Williamson is, to me, unforgettable in the title role. Anthony Hopkins is the best Claudius I have seen; precisely the nasty sty Hamlet calls him, and the highlight of the film is Hamlet's doing him in at last. The rendering of the duel is truly exciting and cathartic, as it should be. Hooray! (Compare it to Branagh's ... Read More

VHS : Remains of the Day
The beauty of Remains of the Day can not be overstated. The photography and art direction were superb in every way. The camera is usually at eye level in most shots, giving the film some intimacy within a great beautiful country home.

The film is based on the novel by Kazuo Ishiguro, a talented master of the understated and unsaid. Anthony Hopkins plays his best role in this film because so much of the acting depends on what is controlled and not said, yet conveyed through subtle movements of the eye or shoulders or head. Hopkins plays Mr. Stevens, the head butler of a large wealthy country estate in rural England. He is the model of organization and forethought. Yet in this job he is so focused on this duty that he ignores the forces around him that call him into participation in the human experience. Notice Mr. Steven's reactions when he hears of the ... VHS : Peter and Paul
This is a wonderful film, superbly written and very well acted. It gives an idea of what it may have been like for the leaders of the early church, including the politics involved. I highly recommend it.
