VHS : Assault on a Queen
Welcome to my review. This particular version of the movie Assault on a Queen(VHS) is ample yet rare so if you see it cheap grab it before somebody else does to sell it on eBay. I take it you don't jump over tall buildings in a single bound or lay down with lions but if you do then this movie will still impress you I'm sure. Take the world famous Steamship HMS Queen Mary and chances are you've never seen her. Or for that matter noticed her even in photographs. But she's real and big for her age and at the time of this movie well dressed and rich... to staggering proportions. Not at all what would come to mind for the most of us.
Frank Sinatra... my favourite male actor of all time plays an American, well, and in so doing gives this film some character that although appreciated ... Read More

VHS : Death Wish 2
I'm at a point in my life where watching movies like this kind of goes against my nature. But that said, this is probably a better movie than a lot of people would like to admit. very quickly, these movies were made at a time when people felt helpless, and people wanted a hero like the dangerous architect.

Charles Bronson never really looks for trouble, but it has a way of finding him. Many would chalk this up as of course being required for the sequel, but there is some realism to this. (The character who doesn't look for trouble, but is often found by trouble.) The movie wastes little time. Charles visits his injured daughter (from part 1) and is trying to start his life over. He runs into some thugs, but Charles flips the tables on them. Not being too bright, the thugs decide ... Read More

5.Career (1959) starring: Dean Martin, Anthony Franciosa, Shirley MacLaine, Carolyn Jones, Joan Blackman

VHS : Career (1959)
Anthony Franciosa stars as a young actor who goes to New York with big dreams and, of course, finds that it's a lot harder to make it on the stage than he realized. Dean Martin co-stars as his director/buddy, Shirley MacLaine is the alcoholic daughter of a famed Broadway producer with whom both men get involved, and Carolyn Jones is a former actress turned successful agent. There's nothing in this material that is original or especially fresh, since it follows a basic plotline we've seen before. Franciosa comes on strong (and sometimes too strong) as the idealistic actor who must decide how much idealism he can afford. Martin is solid and understated, while MacLaine chews the scenery when allowed. Jones creates the most memorable character, mixing in pathos, humour, and a world-weary experience. It's ... Read More

6.Rio Conchos starring: Richard Boone, Stuart Whitman, Anthony Franciosa, Jim Brown, Wende Wagner
directed by: Gordon Douglas
January 01, 1998

VHS : Rio Conchos
Richard Boone carries this rather uneven
Western, with superb support from a stellar
cast, although Whitman's role is disappointingly
small - THE COMANCHEROS is a better choice
for Whitman fans. Boone's is a rare blend
of tough-guy savagery and rough-edged
humanity, and contemporary Hollywood is starved for
the authentic manliness that actors like
Boone once brought to the screen. Factor in
his distinctively droll humor, and you have
that indefinable Star Power so elusive today.
Granted, the film - as noted in previous
reviews - is startlingly violent, but it
is not gratuitously so. On the contrary,
the movie trades Hollywood-style storytelling
for realism. There are no "good soldiers" or
"bad Indians" ... Read More

7.A Face in the Crowd starring: Andy Griffith, Patricia Neal, Anthony Franciosa, Walter Matthau, Lee Remick

VHS : A Face in the Crowd
Andy Griffith, in his acting debut, certainly isn't the Andy Taylor we all love. Here, he plays "Lonesome" Rhodes, a charming drifter that catches the eye and fancy of Patricia O'Neil. She puts him on her radio station and he becomes a star. His folksy ways and "every man" personality is played to the hilt, taking along O'Neil, his ever-growing audience, and even a presidential candidate in his masquerade. Not too soon, "Lonesome" is revealed as what he is - not the Will Rogers that his public sees, but a power-mad snake oil salesman that is taking his followers with him. The viewer sees the act, as O'Neil eventually does, too, but in the meantime, Rhodes is remaking the image of Senator Worthington Fuller to make him the next president of the United States.

If you love classic b&w cinema, morality tales, ... Read More

VHS : City Hall
The film concerns a classic theme. In fact it concerns the theme exploited by Batman, from beginning to end, but in real data and details. The mayor of New York, appreciated and very diligent and dynamic, in order to get some project through slightly faster than normal, yields to some pressure from some private business contractors about a criminal drug dealer who should have been sent and kept in prison and he pressurizes the judge in his turn to set him free on probation in spite of a negative probation report that disappears but is not destroyed, be it only because of the political value it represents. And what was to happen happens and a few people, including a black schoolboy is killed in a shoot out between a police detective and that criminal. The city may explode because of it: racial tension because of the black school ... Read More

VHS : Firepower
Firepower is a surprisingly good late 70's thriller with James Coburn and Sophia Loren. All of the key elements are here--"faceless" billionaire a la Howard Hughes, the saavy renegade in James Coburn, and Sophia Loren looking as striking and stylish as always--while making you wonder what side she's on. The plot--bringing the billionaire to justice--is a so so one...but the aforementioned elements as well as several exotic Caribbean locales make this a worthwhile thriller with a good ending.
