Nice reproduction. It was originally filmed in great quality. Not real sure if the Blue-ray version is that much better. I viewed it on a 720p 42" LCD. But the price made it worth it.

VHS : Soldier's Sweetheart
In "The Things They Carried", Tim O'Brien combines images from his personal experiences with thoughtful storytelling in order to capture the reader's imagination and take them into a world which they may never otherwise see. A world created out of the chaos and confusion that exists as a result of war and internal emotional conflicts. He calls it a work of fiction.
As a war veteran I can appreciate the struggle of how challenging it is to tell a true war story. To bring back its character and relive it. Not merely to verbalize it, but to actually illustrate the story with words. An observer will never truly understand the moral, the underlying points, or even the emotional effects, unless they have lived it. You could tell someone a million different stories about how the dead look, what they smell like, what they sound ... Read More

I had seen the original release from 1978 on VHS tape from my library. One day I was at Wal-mart and saw it in the $5.00 bin, so I bought it. Finally I coulkd enjoy a digitally remastered version of the film instead of a grany VHS. I was also suprised and happy to find that the remastered version cut out some of Walters (Carl Weathers) dumb lines. Like the part where they ate placing explosives down on the road and the kinda look like dog crap and Walters says something to the extent of: " I thought you were supposed to pick up dog crap, not spread it around" and after the explosives blow he said "Man that's some powerful dog doo." Thankfully those lines were removed and now it has a bit more of a war movie feel instead of a war-comedy feel.

All in all it's a good movie, not a great as Saving Private Ryan or Where Eagles Dare ... Read More

VHS : Young Winston
Young Winston is the story of Winston Churchill. It begins with him being sent off to school at about six, but spends much of its time with him as a young officer in the British Army. The best part to me was the episode during the Boar where he was captured and then escaped. I've been to the spot where he was captured and it was rendered very well in the movie. Indeed it was to see this event that I bought the movie and I was not dissappointed.

Although he had a craving for publicity and perhaps over stated his own abilities, he was certainly no coward.

I remember as a child watching all the great old pirate movies with my Dad on Friday nights. Tyrone Power was always one of our favorites and The Black Swan is one movie that stood out in memory for me. It is a beautifully filmed and vastly entertaining film and one I just had to add to my "good ole days" section of my DVD library. If you love pirates-don't pass up on this treasure.
