Its time people realize somthing important. When George Lucas sat down to write star wars in the early 1970's he wrote episodes 1-6. Not 4-6, 1-3 but ALL six!!! He couldn't make a movie that long. So he came up with the story from ep 4 because he felt it was the best part for the time. It was the greatest film of all time. He did not expect it to do that well. He was exhausted from working on it, and vowed never to direct again, which is why he did not direct ep 5 and ep 6. However, years went by, and so did the technology (which his company developed!! ILM) which became CG. Now that it existed, he could tell the story he wanted to tell- ep 1-3. BY KNOCKING THIS MOVIE YOU ARE KNOCKING LUCAS HIMSELF!! Its his baby. NOW PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, get over Jar-Jar!! I was frankly blown away by ... Read More

VHS : Hunt for Red October
Some punk junkie named Sick Boy in the the Danny Boyle cult classic TRAINSPOTING espouses a "theory" of his in which he uses the career of Sean Connery to illustrate. Basically he believes that for everybody in life at one point you got it, then you don't. There's a period in your life, probably when you were younger, when you could have had *it* but then you loose *it* and are past your prime. Well, the other character listening to this was right to feel unimpressed by this cocky punk's disrespectful and plainly dumb understanding of human accomplishment. Sean Connery was the original and coolest James Bond but it was not all downhill from those glory days. Connery's performance THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER disproves Sick Boy's theory (along with a few others in his career btw). Alec Baldwin is ... Read More

VHS : Ulysses
Kirk Douglas was simply outstanding in this legendary epic saga of Ulysses; King of Ithaca, husband of Penelope: The script is based in the most relevant and emotive sequences of Homer's Odyssey; with magnificent special effects, the encounter with the one' eye giant, the mermaid's songs, the spelling of Circe in what we will find out one of the most expressive, gratifying and ethic confrontations, when Circe proposes him to be God and he replies: there are still major gifts, like to be born, to die and in the middle of the interval: to be a man!

An excellent recreation of Ulysses searching for his return to Ithaca.

Not to get into the whole "Clerks" which movie was better argument here, but I always liked "Return of The Jedi" better then "Empire Strikes Back". The reason I love "Jedi" is that within this film you get everything that you saw in the first two within one movie. The amazing opening act at Jabba's palace and the skiff battle. Luke becoming a Jedi master on Degobah. Then the amazing third act. Luke and Vader's final battle, the battle on Endor with Han, Leia, Chewie, and the Ewoks against the storm troopers. And of course in my opinion the greatest space battle of the Star Wars saga. I remember when I was a little kid, watching that space battle and how I was amazed by it. That was one of the first great movie experiences for me as a movie lover. "Return of the Jedi" is everything you could ever ... Read More

VHS : Soldier's Sweetheart
In "The Things They Carried", Tim O'Brien combines images from his personal experiences with thoughtful storytelling in order to capture the reader's imagination and take them into a world which they may never otherwise see. A world created out of the chaos and confusion that exists as a result of war and internal emotional conflicts. He calls it a work of fiction.
As a war veteran I can appreciate the struggle of how challenging it is to tell a true war story. To bring back its character and relive it. Not merely to verbalize it, but to actually illustrate the story with words. An observer will never truly understand the moral, the underlying points, or even the emotional effects, unless they have lived it. You could tell someone a million different stories about how the dead look, what they smell ... Read More

A mid-70s time capsule for urban chic. Sometimes I felt like I was stepping into the cover art of a Miles Davis album cover. Sometimes not. Diana Ross.. who better to demonstrate 70s 'cool' (or at least 'the look')? Italy makes a great backdrop as well. I enjoyed the scenes of her when she wasn't with her goofy politician boyfriend (aka 'Lando Calrissian). Anthony Perkins was not bad as the photographer, even has some likable moments as a character, though you always have the feeling he's about to go psycho. Four stars may be a little high for this film. It's way schmaltzy, and the acting occasionally leaves a little to be desired, but the story keeps moving and I found the subject of photography interesting in addition to a mid-70s Diana Ross in Rome. As a movie, it tries to be more than it is - is success ... Read More

The Good Things
*Good action and special effects. Love the nebula battle scene.
*Good filming style. Generally more colorful and upbeat.
*Pretty good storyline.
*Good characters.
*Good writing. Contains some comedy and a nice love story. Also some interesting content concerning immortality and having two species of the same genetic root fighting each other.
*One or two interesting themes about youth.
*Pretty good music.

The Bad Things
*Nothing particuarly special; the movie feels more like a two-hour long episode.

The Questionable Things
*This film is called "Insurrection," but it's not that big of an insurrection. I expected the Enterprise to oppose the entire Federation or something, but it's more like a small isolated incident.
The Questionable ... Read More

Star Wars 4 Limited Edition includes the original theatrical release and the 2004 tweaked version. There are some fans who refuse to watch the 2004 edition. They prefer the original version where Han shoots first. Then there are people who prefer the 2004 release because it looks more realistic and updated. This DVD will please both fans.
The only reason this DVD does not get five stars is the lack of special features. There are no deleted scenes or inside looks. It just includes commentary.
If you already own the 2004 DVD, it is up to you if you want to spend 15 dollars on the original. You might want to wait for the Absolute Blu Ray Star Wars Episode 1-6 set becasue it will probably be made.
Note: For those of you with widescreen tvs, you will have to zoom in on the original disc because it is non-anaphormic. ... Read More
