For one whom has read the book, the movie captures the essence of the story - chivalry, romance, prejudice, and action. The actors in the movie did an excellent job. The character Ivanhoe was well portrayed and the relationship between Rebecca and Ivanhoe was well developed and believable. The movie addressed all the key activities within the book and succeeded in presenting the story without the audience feeling like the story was being rush. The down side is that the movie may only be available in a VHS version. VHS does have a tendency to age and the clearness of the video and audio may be affected. I didn't see that TV show and I don't find any interest in the principle of the thing. As british TV shows are usually first released as DVDs in America, I wish for the release of SCOOP, a London Weekend Television production (the week end branch of ITV)of 1986, a VIDEO COLLECTION VHS in 1990. This 120 minutes teleplay was directed by Gavin Millar, scripted by Wlliam Boyd, played by Denholm Elliott, Michael Hordern, Michael Maloney, Herbert Lom and Donald Pleasence. Does that make your mouth water? It was very funny too, quite worthy of the novel.

I LOVED this movie when I watched it in the late 80s on VHS. Now, not only can't I find it on DVD here or anywhere online for this area of the world, but I can't even find a VHS copy anywhere. It seems like Australia and Japan and the UK have PAL versions available. Does anyone out there have any influence with the studio to make sure they release this on DVD for WORLDWIDE distribution? Anyway, this was a fantastic movie, very different type of role for Julie Andrews (serious), quite well done. The setting in Barbados was magnificent, and the chemistry between Andrews and Sharif was really mesmerizing. I really want to see this film again. Anyone have any idea how to get it?
