This is truly a wonderful film if you wish to get a sense for class conflict in nineteenth-century Europe. I regularly show the film to my European history classes and believe it is high time that a DVD version be released.

This is one of the best films I've ever seen. There are two main types of science fiction, one trying to extrapolate real possibilites of existinc science with a taste for adventure. The other is an exploration of mankind from within using science fiction as a background. The first type is fun, but over time it becomes the "Buck Rogers", the "Jules Verne Steampunk" stuff. The second type is usually not well recieved at its time, but becomes classic over the years, "The Time Machine" by Wells, for example. "Star Maker" by Stapledon. "Exile of the Aeons" a short story by A.C. Clarke. The story lives on long after when it was written and the 'ill thought super-science' becomes more real and a not to distant possibility.

This is the original French version of the Gene Wilder/Kelly LeBrock "Lady in Red". It has a certain French charm and Jean Rochefort is very amusing (in a French sort of way). Better to have it in French rather than the dubbed version as the voices used are not sympathetic to the original actor voices. French version would be 5 stars.

Godard's most intensive foray into the meaningless, blather of French philosophy in the 1960's. Throughout, you are treated (unfairly) to the director's whispering voice-over, which is unbearable, while the content of his narration is even worse. Even the child is a pretentious little wanker. Overall, an extremely indulgent film that does nothing, says nothing and above all means nothing. Godard is much more clever and effective when he uses techniques such as these in a more subtle, restrained fashion, such as in Pierrot Le Fou. More proof why Existenialism, Post-Modernism, and Structuralism should be laid to waste. I don't like Foucalt mixing with my Godard. Perhaps a treat for those who admire this particular school of thought, but I really cannot stomach it. Sorry.

As Robert A. Bowers already mentioned, this movie has the lovely actress Capucine in it. That alone earns the movie at least three stars! Despite the great cast and the abundant action, this movie has so many cliches and corny dialogue that you'll need a dose of Aleve just to finish it! Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed watching this war movie ever since I was a kid, only now I see all the plot holes and flaws!

The movie begins on August 24, 1939, in a Paris cafe, where six friends (George Peppard, George Hamilton, Horst Bucholz, Anny Duperey, Sam Wanamaker, and Jean Pierre Cassel) from different countries (of course) are about to be torn apart by World War Two. They vow to meet again on the next August 24, not realizing that the war would still be raging then.

All six join the Allies, except the lone ... Read More

It's very apparent that this film was made in the '60's, based upon the attitude of the main character that sex = love, and his selfish attitude toward relationships with women. Brigitte Bardot is stunningly beautiful, and entraps this guy with her guiles. In the guise of dictating to her his exploits and affairs with other women, Bardot actually turns the table on this creep, and is clearly the aggressor in the relationship. Bardot is more than just a pretty face, and carries this film with her talent. At the peak of her beauty, she can also act, as well as develop her character. Highly recommend this one!

9.Bobby Deerfield starring: Al Pacino, Marthe Keller, Anny Duperey, Walter McGinn, Romolo Valli

I read that this was one of Pacino's personal favorites, so I decided to see for myself. It is NOT in any way a "typical" Pacino film, but he develops a character throughout the film that becomes a loving, vunerable man which is a rarity in his films, at least from my point of view. The other fantastic aspect of the film is the wonderful photography of central Europe. The lake district in northern Italy is particularly artfully filmed. I've spent much time there, and the cinematography really captures the essence of that part of the world. NOT an action film, may be too slow for some. I love it. LMSmith

VHS : Charlemagne (1994) (5pc)
Prior to viewing this series about Charlemagne I knew about him in name only.
The acting, cinematography and the overall "feel" of the series is excellent and was most entertaining.
What I found unfortunate is that certain aspects of his life were treated with little more than a few moments on film when in actual life I'm certain they were far more significant and had greater consequences than were shown on the screen.
In addition, the fact that the story ends so abruptly leaves one wondering if there had been an intention to create additional videos but the money had run out.
Overall it was great entertainment but with the ending as it was, a series that I would gladly have given 4-5 stars has ended up with the mediocre rating of three.Charlemagne (1994) (5pc)
