This wonderful family values oriented film really isn't a Christmas story (but yes, inbedded in the plotline is, of course, the "Christmas Box"). Without once again retelling the story (other reviewers have done that nicely), I'll just add my take . . . This is a story about loneliness, workaholism, generosity, grief, love and family (both by birth and by association). A made for TV film, but is very, very well produced and executed. Rich sets and scripting. Great photography. Great direction. The casting is right on. In my opinion, Richard Thomas can only play one character -- but that works in this film where he is the sensitive but ambitious and busy Richard Evans (Husband & Dad). This is a funny movie and well written for the part played by Martin Short. Some of the funniest comedic lines ever. I wish they would put it out on DVD as it's a lost comedic gem in my opinion.

I bought this item . Because I saw the movie via DVD rental . From my local Blockbuster video rental store. The story I thought is very good. unlike most horror movie's /which I'm a big fan of the genra. This movie has a very good story to it. Eventhough the DVD rental was quite watchable I had a little troube with it skipping and freezing up/but it was still good enough fore me to descover a classic. So I could not find the movie in my area. So I looked online and found it on Amazon. So I bought it online . The DVD is in much better condition then the copy that I rented. I had no trouble at all with it and was delighted that the movie s also widesscreen. A aspect raio that I much prefer over Full screen. Anyone who is thinking of buying ... Read More

This movie was just outstanding and an overlooked and forgotten classic. The movie was just a fascinating look at the world of the Gypsies in America. A very young Eric Roberts shines as the grandson of the King of the Gypsies brilliantly played by the legendary Sterling Hayden. Judd Hirsh of Taxi fame is great as Roberts buffoon of a father who's jealous and brutish ways tear his family apart. You will also see Susan Sarandon and a very young Brooke Shields. This movie ranks right up there with the best of the best in my opinion. The costumes, the cinematography and the casting was tops. Combine all that with an interesting and compelling story and you have a classic film.

This movie is bad, but there is one redeeming plot line - the internal struggel of Superman with his alter-ego, Clark Kent. The personalities split in a junk yard fight that is truly fun and intriging; however, beyond that - the movie is a waist. Richard Pryor is poorly used and Robert Vaugne is too camp.
