Toning things down a bit from Big Doll House, Hill returned to his old stomping grounds the following year to make The Big Bird Cage, essentially a spoof of the WIP genre. If you don't take it too seriously and can handle a few sudden 180-degree mood swings, it's one of the most entertaining and certainly best-made women's prison movies of the 1970's. Somewhere on a dictatorially reigned tropical island, American actress Terry (Anita Ford) is taken hostage by revolutionary Django (Sid Haig), when he pulls of a heist on a bar with his girlfriend Blossom (Pam Grier) and other fellow revolutionaries. After two pilots, Columbo: Prescription for Murder aired in February 1968 and Columbo Collector's Edition: Ransom For A Dead Man aired in March 1971, the first episode of Columbo, MURDER BY THE BOOK, was finally broadcasted on Sept. 15th, 1971. It's also possible to watch this episode in the DVD standard by purchasing Columbo - The Complete First Season. I was somewhat anxious before watching MURDER BY THE BOOK because I feared that the pleasure I had, during the seventies, to watch Columbo on TV was only associated with my teen years and hadn't pass the test of time. Much, much better than the later Adam Sandler version, the movie was so good it gave Burt enough leash to go out and make stinker after stinker for about a decade. The LONGEST YARD is easily one of the best sports movies ever, from my point of view only surpassed by BREAKING AWAY. By now it looks quiet dated (look at the cool remote control!) and I'm still wondering how they were able to convict Crewe on drunk driving when he dumped the car in the water and was arrested in a bar (where is alcohol level would understandably be high). Anyway, when the final half hour arrives you can't help but cheer, no many how many times you've seen it.

MY HUSBAND BOUGHT THIS CUZ THE REVIEWS WERE SO GOOD AND HE'S A SUCKER FOR HORROR FILMS. WELL, I WATCHED THE FIRST ONE WHICH WAS PAINFUL TO HAVE TO SIT THROUGH. SO, BY 10 MINUTES INTO THE SECOND MOVIE I JUMPED ON THE COMPUTER TO PLAY A GAME. THEY BOTH SOUND LIKE THEY HAVE THE SAME CRAPPY SOUNDTRACK. THESE MOVIES ARE SO BEYOND TERRIBLE I'M EMBARRASSED TO TELL ANYONE WE BOUGHT THIS PIECE OF RUBBISH. LUCKILY HE TRADED IT FOR ANOTHER MOVIE THE VERY NEXT DAY. WHAT A WASTE OF CASH THESE MOVIES ARE SO BAD AND DATED THAT I DON'T THINK THEY ARE EVEN GOOD E-NUFF TO BE ON CABLE TV AT 4AM ON A WEDNESDAY NITE AND EVEN MY HUSBAND AGREES.
