VHS : Poldark 1 (6 VHS Boxed Set)
I had the VHS tapes of Poldark I and Poldark 2, but gave them away as I no longer have a VCR and I was sure they would be made available on DVD sooner or later. Woe is me, that hasn't happened yet and I'm hysterical now that I don't have the tapes because they would be worth buying a VCR to see them. There must be others like me who would relish seeing this fabulous series on DVD. Please, whoever's in charge of such things, release this series on DVD and it will sell like hotcakes.

VHS : Gathering Storm
This 1974 made for TV movie stars Richard Burton as Winston Churchill. This is the first film titled "The Gathering Storm" another film was later released with the same title. They are both UK/US co-productions. I believe this film with Burton to be superior mostly because of his performance of the British leader. It was also known as "A Walk with Destiny". It played on British BBC TV and on ABC here in the US. However, this film is NOT available yet on DVD. I don't believe either here or in the UK. The feature is 72mins long and well worth viewing for either biography buffs or used as an educational tool in class.

The Gathering Storm chronicles the days of Churchill prior to WWII. It deals with the pre war years. A crucial time in British history from 1936-1940. Churchill had already ... Read More

VHS : Curse of King Tut's Tomb
In the same vein of quality as famous Agatha Christie films of the 80's (Death on the Nile and Death in Mesopotamia), this film helps you lose yourself in the glamorous atmosphere of North Africa in the 20's.

The excellent cast of first-rate British (Wendy Hiller) and American (Eva Marie Saint) movie stars, combined with actual footage from the Valley of the Kings, the Temples at Luxor and dusty markets on the pper Nile, builds an atmosphere at once authentic and glamorous.

Most importantly, you feel the excitement and uncertainty of Carter's explorations. One of the great moments in the film occurs in the dusty cave when Carter takes an axe to the outer wall of what he hopes is King Tut's tomb.

The real drama in this movie is in experiencing these discoveries as if ... Read More

As a Susan Hampshire fan I would like any movie she is in, and, ergo, any comment of mine on the product would be so lacking in objectivity as not to warrant its submission. GVP

VHS : Hands of the Ripper
Hands of the Ripper is a shockingly neglected and obscure little atmospheric masterpiece from Hammer Studios. It's a veritable showcase of classic horror at its best, with several somewhat bloody scenes thrown in for good measure. Beautifully shot and scored, the film simply oozes the aura of Victorian London, and the cinematography of the final shot is, ahem, to die for. The entire cast is wonderful, particularly Eric Porter and Angharad Rees, the latter being a delightful young actress I had never encountered before.

I know you're probably wondering if the film is about Jack the Ripper. Well, yes and no. The story is ostensibly about his daughter. You can imagine how screwed up in the head a daughter of Saucy Jack might be; now imagine that this little girl saw her father murder her mother ... Read More
