VHS : Mrs Santa Claus (Clam)
I watched this originally because of Angela Lansbury. She does not disappoint in this lovely, heart-warming movie and all the supporting players back her up beautifully. The story is not the core of the film but the music and dancing makes up for any small discrepancies with the script. If you like musicals you'll love this. I intend to play this every Christmas in the same way as I play the original version of "A Christmas Carol".

This will be a Christmas gift so I haven't actually watched it yet. However, I am pleased with the timeliness of the shipping. The dvd looks to be in great shape. The price was about what I expected. Overall, all has been great. I just couldn't give the 5 stars yet because I haven't actually watched it.

VHS : The Pirates of Penzance
There was much controversy over the release and re-broadcast of this version, with Ronstadt playing Mabel. While the rest of the title cast (Kline, Rose, Smith, etc.) were marvelous, Ronstadt was selected to play Mabel for her "star" status at the time - and the raw outlook, that she was a country-western singer, NOT an opera or classical voice. Apparently she had worked for many weeks prior to shooting Pirates in order to enhance and "ready" the soprano she needed to portray Mabel. Not an easy feat, as she is no classical soprano. Through most of the chorus songs, and her solos, her lyrics are quite muddy, and you will notice during the round of 'Poor Wandering One' her inevitable country 'twang' seeps in, but is ALMOST rescued by a genuine sweeping soprano lyric.

However, her redemption ... Read More

I loved this movie as a child and my 2 year old loves it too.
The animation in the middle of the movie makes it a great surprise for kids.

I love this movie, so that is why I decided to buy it. The only problem I had with the movie was when it was shipped to me, the entire case was destoryed. The movie itself was perfectly fine but the case was not. I am upset that the company shipped the movie in that condition since I bought the movie brand new.

VHS : Mrs. Arris Goes to Paris
I watched this movie for the first time in 1999, after I accidentally picked it up from a public library. Even though I don't like to use superlatives as I inevitably end up changing my mind, this movie is undoubtedly one of the best, if not the best movie I have ever seen. I still haven't changed my mind for the past 10 years!

It's just beautiful... like a postcard. It takes place between London and Paris in the 1950's, with all their charm. Part of the story takes place in the House of Dior in Paris where Mrs Harris (promounced 'Arris by her French friends) tries to purchase the dress of her dreams after she worked very hard to save every penny of its price. A tender love story unfolds as a subplot between a socially awkward accountant and a pretty model. Omar Sherif's role as a "Ministre Sans Portfolio" who is estranged ... Read More

With those lines, Henry Manicini's song begins one of the finest romatic movies Hollywood ever produced. I have loved "Dear Heart" from my first viewing so many years ago on television, and I was so happy when it was first released on VHS. I actually sent letters asking the movie be saved. Now, it is about to be forgotten again, and that would be such a shame. I hope someone will rescue this most wonderful of movies and release it on DVD. I promise to be an ardent customer.
Why is the movie so special? - wonderful script, superb acting, careful direction, and, of course, Henry Mancini's haunting score.
Geraldine Page, perhaps one of the finest actresses to grace the stage or silver screen, shines as the loveable, sometimes whacky, and always genuinely beautiful Evie Jackson. Her performance as Evie is a thing of beauty, to ... Read More
