VHS : Godfather Trilogy 1901-1980
This trilogy is by far the most excilerating ever. It tells the story of the rise and fall of the Corleone crime family. Although this is a fictional story, It is one of the best stories that portrays the acts of a real Mafia family. After Vito Corleone(Michael's father) dies, it is up to Michael to take up the family business. Michael finds himself turning into one of the most feared gangters of his time. Watch this action packed film with plenty of mind blowing suprises. It is an all around great trilogy staring;Al Pacino,Marlin Brando,Robert Deniro and other great actors.

VHS : The Untouchables
The film came long after the 1960s series and it was able to improve the discourse a lot from pure police and gangster violence and counter violence and counter counter violence to some kind of calmer and sounder vision of prohibition. The least we can say is the whole case was absurd. Absurd because prohibition was an idiotic policy and in 1931 it was on the very verge of being abrogated, nullified and voided. Absurd because they could never get Al Capone for his crimes since he never did anything himself but only through and via other people. Absurd because even tax evasion was nearly derailed by bribes to the members of the jury, to the judge probably and many other people. But it is also true that this famous case managed to make gangsters and the mafia think twice and start moving to legal operations ... Read More

VHS : The Godfather, Part III (Final Director's Cut)
THIS MOVIE IS TERRIBLE. The first 2 were excellent. If it's not bad enough waiting 16 years for a 3rd movie, then the movie itself is just horid. I mean like Michael is like in his 50s and Kay, Al Neri and all the others look they were about to croak any second. There are a few cameos from the first and second movies, like Michael's daughter looking through a scrapbook with pics of Appelonia(Michael's first wife who died in a car explosion in part 1), and a picture hanging on a wall showing Michael and Kay in a scene from part 2, and even a reference to Santino when Michael's daughter ask's a friend of Michael's 'What Was Sonny(Santino's nickname) Like?' Other than that THIS IS A DISGRACE TO ALL GODFATER FANS. AVOID.

VHS : The Disappearance of Garcia Lorca
This was one of the best movies I have seen. The flashback technique was somewhat like Mulholland Drive, but the viewer was allowed to achieve total understanding at the end. (Although it might take a couple of viewings to really understand.) Every actor and scene contributed to the mystery which gradually illuminated complicated political, social, artistic, and psychological truths in the search for the answer to a seemingly simple question. The acting was fantastic as were the music and the settings, and the dialogue. Each complimented the other. There was some gestalt in the ending and Andy Garcia's portrayal of Lorca was courageous, sad, intelligent, and sensitive. It definitly inspires a second or third viewing, purchase of the soundtrack and Llorca's poetry. Also politcally pertinent even today.

VHS : When a Man Loves a Woman
Alice Green (Meg Ryan) and her husband, Michael (Andy Garcia) are a happily married young couple, until Alice's secret drinking problem is exposed. Alice goes to rehab and when she comes home, she and Michael don't know how to act with one another without the help of alcohol.

This is a really good romantic drama dealing with the terrible ways alcoholism affects a couple and their young children. Oh, my goodness - that Andy Garcia can act and he's quite the dreamboat, too. He's so utterly convincing as the tortured husband that it makes me wonder why I haven't seen him in more leading roles. Meg Ryan, on the other hand, never convinced me she was suffering with guilt or shame or anything; her sunny smile and angelic face were always the same...perky, perky, PERKY! Alcoholism never looked so good!

VHS : Night Falls on Manhattan
Like all other films directed by Sidney Lumet, this is a solid, no-nonsense, intelligent police drama. In my opinion, Andy Garcia exhibits one of his finest performances in this film. Unfortunately, the 1.85:1 widescreen DVD is not enhanced for 16:9 TVs, although the picture and sound are of high quality.

VHS : Dead Again
Kenneth Branagh's film Dead Again is a superbly crafted thriller that cleverly combines film noir, supernatural suspense, melodrama, and romance. Branagh (Henry V) pulls double duty, both directing and starring in this stylish update of the mystery genre. The film stars Branagh and his wife Emma Thompson in dual-roles, as well as featuring an impressive supporting cast including Andy Garcia, Derek Jacobi, Hanna Schygulla, Wayne Knight, and Robin Williams.
The film utilizes all of the trappings of a Hitchcock picture, while remaining completely original and contemporary. Though at times pretentious and over the top, Dead Again is a welcome return to a genre that in recent years has been dormant and waiting to be resurrected.

When L.A. private investigator Mike Church is asked to help an emotionally troubled amnesiac ... Read More

'Look out Wall Street I'm Coming Home!'

Real life ball player Robyn Barto is shortstop Paula, who wants to play with the big boys on a major league team. She visits Ft. Lauderdale during Spring Training and tries to convince snooty Devil's owner Sandy (Harry Hamlin from "Clash of the Titans"), and crotchety coach Lou (Dana Eclar from TV's "MacGuyver") to let her on the team. Sounds like a promising, albeit formulaic, sports picture, but throw in a a clumsy romantic subplot involving Paula's manager Liz (Mimi Rogers, "Someone to Watch Over Me") and Sandy that takes up most of the film's second half, and you get a film with an identity crisis, which seems to ruin the point of this whole endeavor.

If you decide to bother, keep an eye out for Andy Garcia in his first(?) film role as Devils' team member Ken. Early on, ... Read More
