Across the board this film has received nothing but 5-star reviews. One after another after another. And that's because it's a film that connects beautifully with everyone who watches it. I don't need to recant the plot, and others have reviewed it so well already. Suffice to say this is a very moving film. It's about humanity, sympathy, overcoming, and grace. And it's an absolute tragedy that as of November of 2008, the film remains locked in a vault and has yet to see a DVD release, despite the film's quality, and top notch talent involved.

Every so often youthful filmmakers dig up these lost gems and show them at fan film festivals. Quentin Tarentino did this with Eyes of a Stranger, and it helped that lost film make it to DVD. Such a revisit may be this film's only hope at ... Read More

VHS : To Dance with the White Dog
To Dance With The White Dog is one of my favorite movies ever. It is the story of Sam and Cora Peeke who have been married for 57 years. When Cora dies Sam is befriended by a white dog who stays with him through his last days. What makes this movie so poignant is that Jessica Tandy and Humn Cronyn were married for fifty plus years like the characters and the year this was released Jessica Tandy died of cancer. THis movie really celebrates a special love these two characters had and at the same time shows the relationships with their children and the issues faced by a lot of older people- losing a spouse, health declining, and maintaining independence. To me the movie was about how love can live forever and that the magic between two people will live on. Jessica Tandy was luminious in this movie ... Read More

3.Wise Blood starring: Ned Beatty, Joe Dorsey, Brad Dourif, Richard Earle, Betty Lou Groover

VHS : Wise Blood
This great, unjustly forgotten John Huston film has fallen by the wayside, and that's a real shame. A striking cinematic adaptation of the Flannery O'Connor novel, Wise Blood boasts Brad Dourif in the lead role, Hazel Motes, and Dourif nails it. When you see the film, you realize it would be really tough to imagine anyone else alive at the time being able to carry off the role. Harry Dean Stanton, as usual, adds his terrific skills as the "blind" preacher Asa Hawkes, and Ned Beatty is also along for the ride as singing preacher Hoover Shoates.

Motes, Hawkes, and Shoates--all preachers. This is O'Connor country, and Huston himself shows up as another preacher, Hazel Motes' grandfather, who spews fire and brimstone, inculcating his grandson in the fierce and vengeful ways of the Lord. ... Read More

I just happened to find this movie several years ago on one of the premium channels. I had never heard of it but from the info given it sounded interesting. I watch this movie and laughed & laughed. It has a great cast of actors. And each character is essential to the movie. It's a movie that isn't a block buster but it is a movie that is very entertaining & one that you can watch over & over. It's about a crazy southern family, with quirky habits, lots of sibling rivalry, family love, and a family bond that eventually allows them to over come their obstacles & their feuds with one another & being a southerner I can relate. I have a list of movies that I have seen and enjoyed but they are rarely ever shown on TV again. So I went on-line & found it. If you want a laugh and to be highly ... Read More

This and "Manhattan" are Woody's two great masterpieces, I think. It's quirky, but it hasn't dated at all because it's classic. You won't laugh a lot, but you may smirk, or smile. I hadn't seen this since it came out years ago. It was a great re-visit. Typical Woody jazz soundtrack lends atmosphere.

Meg Tilly sitting in a chair reading the newspaper for an hour and a half gets 3 stars from me so anything that she's in starts from there. This is an okay story, plot, etc but not the best to be honest. She's done better movies but this one's not bad and she does get a good amount of screen time. It will keep you entertained and if you're a fan of Meg Tilly, you'll like it.
