VHS : Riders of Purple Sage
This made for TV movie was a wonderful surprise! The production is superb and the cast outstanding. In fact, I believe that it would have done well as a theatrical release!

I only take issue with two things:

1) This fine movie has never been released on DVD and it is certainly worthy of such a reissue -- hopefully with some special features.

2) I am a Mormon Studies Scholar and I purchased this video to get acquainted with what is considered one of the definitive, watershed pieces of period fiction literature commenting on Utah Mormonism from a "Gentile" perspective.

This aspect of Zane Grey's novel is hinted at but not explicit in this production - I assume to not offend the Mormons in the 1996 nationwide broadcast audience. However this ... Read More

I too would like to see this movie on DVD. I saw it on TV several times in past years, and enjoy the thought of Amy Madigan and Ed Harris starring together in a romantic movie, while they are man and wife in real life. They are both excellent actors, and I would love to have this in my DVD collection

VHS : Field of Dreams
Field of Dreams starring Kevin Costner always felt like a fable to me. This baseball film is very good and insighful but my parents watched it so many times when I was a little kid that I kinda got sick of it. Now that I am adult, I appreciate this monster hit for its simple storytelling, some parts are a bit draggish but Field of Dreams is a sweet experience, give it a viewing!

VHS : Not for Ourselves Alone - The Story of Elizabeth Cady Stanton & Susan B. Anthony
It would be totally inadequate for this reviewer to say that NOT FOR OURSELVES ALONE:The Story of Elizabeth Cady Stanton & Susan B. Anthony is simply a "must-see","well done","moving","dramatic","compelling"etc.etc. documentary of the two forgers of the early Woman's Suffrage Movement. This Ken and Paul Burns treatise has been so carefully, sensitively and lovingly handled, crafted and assembled that I was moved to anger, incredulity, sympathy, action and finally to just good ol'tears!
NOT FOR OURSELVES ALONE tells in vivid detail, based upon the enormous source material and writings and correspondence of the two amazing women of the 19th -century,Cady Stanton and Anthony, who almost in a battle alone, fought tirelessly for the equality and dignity and rights of all women to receive and exercise their ... VHS : Love Letters (1983)

Jamie Lee Curtis' character believes that to concede to overwhelming passion as a threshold to true love, and have a physical relationship with a married man, is human, after all. She has a "friend" played by Amy Madigan, the ultimate vicarious "coach" who does everything *not* to dissuade her.
I have never seen Curtis act better than in this "oddball" flick that I assume is now in a well-deserved "Cult" status. She is both aggressive and vulnerable; at the end of the movie when it all comes crashing down she is especially impressive. Sally Kirkland plays the wife of James Keach and in a stunning scene shows great compassion for the young woman left trembling in the dark, at their doorway.
This movie might stir memories of movies like "Bodyheat", or any ... Read More

I watched this movie on the Logo channel. They may have taken some parts out I don't know.

Or let me say I hope they took some parts out. If this was the entire contents of the movie they need to add some parts in.

It starts out ok with this cute girl who's a lawyer and other nice looking girls in that same building.

Almost immediately she starts having hallucinations about people who aren't real that sneak up behind her and choke her, etc..

Ok it's getting better I'm thinking.

But it never gets past that point. It just gets bogged down in a lot of symbolism that doesn't mean anything (at least to me).

You've got the kleptomaniac sister who steals for sexual thrills. The little boy who carves words into his skin. The model / stipper. Etc.
