I always have to debunk those negative remarks when it comes to military movies. First of all, the U.S. government is not going to allow a true movie to come about any mission. Secondly, the director got the idea from someone who was obviously involved in this situation so don't blame them, blame the person who told it. Black Hawk Down contained fallacies itself. Don't believe me? The next time you watch a "military" movie, watch it with a servicemember: They will find something wrong. ACTUAL REPRESENTATION IS NOT ALLOWED.

I enjoyed this movie immensely: The actors work well together and it imparts the idea that everyone has a reason for joining the military. It is interesting and I am happy to have it as part of my movie collection.

I enjoyed this movie in the theater and bought this Blu-Ray disc to see it in high definition. Unfortunately, the Audio on the disc box indicates Dolby Digital TrueHD 5.1. Even the Blu-ray disc menu shows TrueHD as an option, but it doesn't work! I use an Onkyo TX-SR605 receiver to playback the Hi-Def audio like TrueHD and dts-HD. The sound is a big improvement from regular Dolby Digital. For some reason, this option doesn't work with this disk. (Wonder if anyone else experienced this problem???)
So, a four star movie gets only 3!

And what a sister! Alice Faye and Betty Grable were made for each other as a musical comedy act, together or separately in given scenes. Alice, as the dominant sister, got most of the good single numbers, but Betty got a chance to show her stuff with "honeysuckle rose". I can't believe they were never again paired(although they were supposed to be, in "The Dolly Sisters" But, it was too late, as Alice decided to retire just then). John Payne and Jack Oakie were another great buddy pair, Oakie providing a perfect comedic balance to Payne's serious demeanor as a pair of struggling tunesmiths. Oakie does an impromptu rendition of a classic George M. Cohan war moral booster, composed about the time the story takes place, at the beginning of WWI. This duo would appear in several other Faye ... Read More

In the wake of the brilliant Sun Valley Serenade, Fox again cast Sonja with John Payne under the helm of H. Bruce Humberstone. Iceland is not as good as Sun Valley, but her skating is her best. The music is first rate, though the words hilarious(promoting the girls to let soldiers have fun with them, they might not come back hehehe). Sonja proves once again that she was a comic talent, but the stagefarce-plot is much too much at times... However; the musicalnumbers are a treat and u should always watch it for that reason alone.

20th Century Fox had an impressive track record with musicals during the 1930s and 1940s, turning out one box office smash after another--but for all their great popularity at the time they were not usually liked by the critics and most film historians tend to be dismissive of them even to this day. There is a reason for that: although they were well designed and well crafted, they were seldom innovative and they existed as star vehicles plain and simple, flyweight creations shot through with lots of American boosterism and jingoism and designed to show off a female star. And in the 1940s that star was Betty Grable.

Grable (1916-1973) knocked around Hollywood for a decade without gaining much attention--but after a stint on Broadway led to the popular 1940 movie DOWN ARGENTINE WAY ... Read More

6.Jason's Lyric starring: Allen Payne, Jada Pinkett Smith, Bokeem Woodbine, Anthony 'Treach' Criss, Eddie Griffin

VHS : Jason's Lyric
Jason's Lyric is clearly one of the best urban love stories ever put on film. The direction by Doug McHerny showed real talent as did his screenpaly. Allen Payne and Jada Pinkett both showed early lead acting roles in this good film. Finally I think Forrest Whitaker and Bokeem Woodbine both deserved Oscar nods for their work. I give it **** out of ****.

8.College Swing starring: George Burns, Gracie Allen, Martha Raye, Bob Hope, Edward Everett Horton
directed by: Raoul Walsh

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

VHS : College Swing
Never a consistent director, Raoul Walsh permits this collection of set-pieces to proceed in a disjointed manner as a means of showcasing Paramount contract players. The scenario is inordinately silly but provides substantial roles for Gracie Allen, Bob Hope, Martha Raye, Edward Everett Horton, John Payne, and Betty Grable. Hope's performance in BIG BROADCAST OF 1938 was reviewed very favorably by Damon Runyon, a friend of producer Lewis Gensler, who remembered the comedian from Broadway and vaudeville, and who is responsible for significantly enhancing Hope's part in COLLEGE SWING. Allen's ability for making communicable to audiences her giddy semantic high jinks is in full array, with her partner and husband George Burns serving, as is usual, as her straight man, as does Horton, but the talented comedienne ... This film give a brief but interesting look at the hardships and problems that these individuals suffered as a result of their race instead of their abilities. While there is a footnote to the fact that these individuals were the most decorated unit in the Air Corp, it does not follow-up with what happens to them after the war.

CB4 can be compared as the SPINAL TAP of gangster rap in the mid- or early 90's. Almost the same documentary type of format, CB4 shows the roots and development of a legendary rap group named after a criminal who was recently jailed and put into cell block 4.

Throughout the movie, you'll here ridiculous songs like Straight Out of Locash, a parody of NWA's Straight out of Compton which is absolutely hilarious, Sweat From My Balls, pretty self-explanatory and other hits from CB4 which make this movie great.

If you enjoy Chris Rock or any SNL, this is a must buy. I rank this up with Anchorman, Happy Gilmore and National Lampooon's Vacation in classic comedies that I have seen.

If you enjoyed this movie, I also recommend watching a similar but lower budget film called *iggaz With ... Read More
