VHS : Verdi - La Traviata / Levine, Stratas, Domingo
Domingo sings beautifully, Stratas less so but looks and acts the part. The biggest problem is there are so many cuts and shortened arias that you could almost call this "extended highlights". And Zeferelli over-produces, particularly with camera work. If you want a movie version get Anna Moffo's of over 30 years ago. Now there was a Violetta!

2.The Metropolitan Opera - La Boheme (Puccini ) starring: Richard Stilwell, Jose Carreras, James Morris, Allan Monk, Italo Tajo

VHS : The Metropolitan Opera - La Boheme (Puccini )
I have both of the Metropolitan Opera DVDs of la Boheme and consider this the finer production, Carreras and Stratas are not only vocally excellent they look the part. Renata Scotto is perfect as Musetta. In the other copy she plays Mimi and Pavarotti is Rodolfo. They are just too healthy to be dying of TB or look like a starving playwright. That copy I would rate as 4 stars.

3.Berlioz - Les Troyens / Levine, Troyanos, Norman, Domingo, Metropolitan Opera starring: Tatiana Troyanos, Jessye Norman, Plácido Domingo, Allan Monk, Paul Plishka

Excellent cast, well done BUT the recording should have included subtitles.
Tatiana was one of our most beloved singers.
