I had high hopes for this since it is Disney and I had never read the book. This is by far the weirdest, creepiest, longest, boring KIDS movie I have ever seen. It is like a horror flick for kids. Just Terrible. Constant suspense that never really climaxes and a sudden really dumb ending. A total loss for me. And my 8 yr old kept asking me 'what's going on?" about a hundred times during the movie. Too hard for kids to follow. The set and the actors are cheesy and fake. And it was so long I just couldn't wait for it to be over. Just awful.

Good movie and it's more believeable having a younger actress play a 6yr old Helen but the dialogue is almost the same as the other 2 versions albeit a little more modern on occasion. I was hoping for a fresh approach.

I enjoyed it just for the fact that a young/small child payed Helen instead of a 13 or 14yr old.

I love period dramas, but this was the worst. I did not even finish the movie because it was awful. The immorality alone took it from period drama to pandering soap opera. The characters are weak-willed, lack integrity and make mistake after mistake which they resolve by less than noble means. From homosexuality to abortion to infidelity, this movie was totally tasteless and not deserving of anyone's time or attention. Skip it.

Another of my favorite movies that stars Thora Birch when younger. A lonely girl finds a monkey in the park and it goes from there to her trying to hide it and escape the gypsy that previously owned the monkey. It is a great movie!

A good story, and one that gives hope that they can accomplish about anything they want if they want it bad enough.

VHS : Private Function
Much more reserved than a Monty Python film but Palin's humor is excellently dry in this unique film about a strained married couple during post war WW II England that was stil experiencing shortages, particularly meat. Palin plays a podiatrist married to Maggie Smith, who obviously and reluctantly settled for him as opposed to a more, in her mind, prestigious physician or other socially upward chap. As post war England is still in the midst of a severe meat shortage, requiring rationing, those with meat are much higher up the social ladder and become the "in crowd". And on the flip side, those who suddenly possess meat, whether through legal means or otherwise, can procure money, sex or other special favors. Palin playing the severely reprimanded husband can never seem to please his wife, or have the benefits of any affection what ... Read More

10.Eternal Kiss of the Mummy starring: Rachel O'Rourke, Lois Smith, Alison Elliott, Jared Harris, Sinead Dolan

VHS : Eternal Kiss of the Mummy
I really wish that Michael Almereyda had kept the alternate title for this movie, which was Trance. The Eternal: Kiss of the Mummy is a terrible title, and the cover graphics make it look like any other lame horror flick. But it's not.

The Eternal is traditional mummy/haunted house/zombie movie, but with interesting details. A woman who emigrated from Ireland at the age of 16 returns to her native country with her Irish-American husband (I think; Jared Harris looks like a short version of Conan O'Brien here) and their son. She and her husband are alcoholics and want to start over by reuniting with her grandmother and uncle. You can tell that they love their son, but they neglect him by drinking. It's not a typical mummy movie set-up, and it makes you see the characters as people and not just victims.

It returns ... Read More
