Great movie, quirky, avante garde, enjoyable, fun. If you liked Marianne Sagebrecht in "Bagdad Cafe" you'll love this movie. And Brad Davis looks great in boxers. It's great to see the battler triumph over consumerism, even though it's a fantasy. Also to see a family share a common interest and pull together is heart warming, even if it is shopping channel that gets them off.

The film begins with a very impressive display of weaponry skills by none other than Sho Kosugi in full Ninja uniform, including sai, shinobi-gatana, tonfa, nunchaku, manriki {bola}, blowgun, shiroken, bow & arrow, and spear-staff. Blend into white ninja {color indicative of novice/apprentice} amidst the wilderness undergoing his final "law of the jungle" test until recognized as full Ninja calibre; he is attacked by several red ninjas on his way back to the dojo, expertly defending himself until facing the Shidoshi himself, shockingly beheading him before entering in for judgement {this was a mere test to decipher whether or not he would be able to assassinate someone familiar to him to fulfill a mission, as many times an enemy would employ such illusionary tactics to distract from the task ... Of all the dozens of excellent films I have in my collection on VHS, this remains the film I would most like to see transferred to DVD. What a gem!

When I originally purchased it without knowing a thing about it, I was slightly intrigued by the fact that the synopsis on the video box makes the film sound like a gritty suspense thriller, one of my favorite genres. The plot sounded interesting - a young black student is accused of murdering a white teen in NYC during the 1950's. OK, sounds like an intriguing piece of drama, I'll take it. So I took it home and was utterly blown away. One plot twist after another, fantastic acting, and a surprise theme about homophobia (which turns out to be the main point of the film) kept me riveted to my seat for the entire film.

The story ... Read More

Not too subtle horror movie, where the murderer kills the girls in different manners. Entertaining, yes. Predictable, yes. But it seems to be intented to be predictable. As if the makers were thinking that "stupid is clever". It kind of works.

The mid-80's was fantastic. Jazzdance, bikes with drop handlebar, jeans that don't fit, t-shirts neatly tucked into the jeans.

A lot of nudity, which of course is morally questionable. At least it serves the overall purpose of the movie. Predictability. All girls who show their breasts on screen get killed, and noone who doesn't. In other words, appearing topless is what the philosophers call "the necessary and sufficient condition" to be killed.

While one may think that conscious predicibility is fun, and that stupidness for ... Read More

I bought this for my little sister, who has just seen the live musical of Huckleberry Finn. She absolutely LOVES this disney version and watches it all of the time. It does have some language and violence that surprised me for a Disney movie. Great characters and the story is told very well.

I saw the musical on Broadway several years ago, and I have to say that the film does an excellent job of capturing the engery of a live performance. The cast is superb, the music is still fresh, the jokes are still funny, and the layers of reality are done exttremely well. I recently viewed this and Joseph: King of Dreams back-to-back, and there is no doubt that this is the far better retelling of the story.
This mucical is appropriate for even small children, but it is not a children's show.
I would recommend this to just about everyone.

If you're looking for a somewhat predictable "chick flick," this one's perfect. My wife lets her Spanish students watch this movie every year, because it's clean and gives insight into the Spanish culture and language. The story follows the "Romeo and Juliet" theme in modern times.
